2 different bands.

Both great.

VHalen was more street-tough. VHagar was more high-flyin' and had more soul.

Meanstreet and Somebody get me a Doctor rock. (Fuck Hot For Teacher, Jamies Cryin, and Panama)

I like more VHagar songs across the board than Vhalen songs.

But Dave era is true Van Halen.

Show of hands. Who has voluntarily listened to a Van Halen song over the past six months? By "voluntarily" I mean, not something that: happened to be playing on the radio while you were driving, happened to come on when you were in a bar, and not one of the hundreds of songs you have on a Spotify playlist (or some other playlist), but something that you actually sought out. In other words you said, "Hmm. I feel like hearing Dreams right now."

I don't think I've sought out a Van Halen song at any point this decade. I don't think the music is bad. I just am permanently burnt out on it.

That being said, Van Hagar over Van Halen.

I have, on several occasions. Maybe I am an exception.

I chose to listen to the greatest hits on my run the other day, before I even saw this thread. I have maybe under half of Best of Both Worlds on there, I hit shuffle, it's all good. Probably also all stuff the Loop used to play.

I will actually seek out Fleetwood Mac. Sometimes I need to hear Landslide or Silver Springs. I can't say the same about Hot for Teacher or Right Now.

"Jump" and "Right Now" are my favorite Van Halen songs so that I can say my favorite songs by the guitariest guitar band that ever guitared are both based around keys. "Dance the Night Away" is probably third.

One of my favorite Van Halen song (not Van Hagar)is Dance the night away. The reason is Roth MAKES that song. It's an average song but Roth being the true lead professional that he is just puts that song into the stratosphere.

When Jump came out I liked it. It made Van Halen superstars.

But now, I can't stand it because you hear it everywhere. On the radio or on some commercials etc....
