Don't feel out of place. Neither do Phish "fans."

They're just in it for the sense of community.

Phish sells out two nights at Wrigley.

Dance Gavin Dance has IMU and a thread with zero responses in attendance.

I'm not a Phish fan because they're too hippieish for me. I respect them as musicians and songwriters though.

Dance Gavin Dance is just horrible.

And thousands and thousands of more album sales on their latest releases.

They sold out Portage Theater, by the way. Not shabby!

Starting a thread like this doesn't make you seem very FOCUSed.

This thread is beyond stupid.

IMU must have joined this board when he was in the womb, because I didn't know anyone over the age of 17 liked Dance Gavin Dance.
Phish are not my regular cup of tea, I like a lot of their music, but wouldn't consider myself a Phanatic.
But Phish is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better than DGD.
Lemme know when DGD sells out multi-night dates at Alpine Valley, and I'll save some money and slum it at whatever shit venue DGD is playing in.

You should actually attend a concert. Average age is probably late 20's. Direct result that we (fans) were younger when DGD released their first album in 2007. Their music has evolved as they've aged.

And they put on a great live show.

(They sold out Webster Hall in NYC a few weeks ago. They don't exactly play dives). They've played Metro and Portage in Chicago...and have played the main stage of Warped Tour.

#7 on Itunes and #13 on Billboard 200 is good for them.

I'm not gonna be a message board dick. I think it's great that you find joy in this band's music.
But I'm nowhere close to being in my 20's, and I'm just like the old trope "Get off my lawn" old guy.
Believe me, I wish I could turn back time to 1995 or whatever, but I wouldn't have my wife or daughter if that happened.
I'm just fuckin around about DGD, the only thing I know about them is that one of their singers resembled one of my friend's girlfriend.
So that's what I think of whenever I hear the name.
(She has an awesome rack though).
I'll stop now. :drunken:

Yeah, this is what you could call, for lack of a better term, "strip mall music."

Stuff like Senses Fail and Panic! at the Disco must have been a revelation to kids who grew up gay in McHenry circa 2006.

If Billboard charts and album sales is the criteria that IMU wants to use to judge this, then Miley Cirus and N'Sync are both light years better than Dance Gavin Dance.

I'm saying this is a band that went from playing in front of 20 people to selling out nationwide tours primarily by word of mouth. Good stuff. Ranking that high on an independent label is impressive. There is no radio promotion...no Spotify homepage features...no Rolling Stone article...etc

These are good and coherent points. MANY people here would probably agree with the bold part.

That post is nearly a complete 180 turn from your thread title. And I don't even like Phish.

On Halloween, phish pulls a tributosaurus and becomes another band and plays the albums quite well (my favorite was white album). If dance Gavin can do that I'll consider that they're not just a hipster band flavor of the month. But better than 5han phish... Yeah. I just don't know.

:D

That is a fair point...but their instrumentalists are top notch. I have no doubt they can play music from a ton of other bands. Will Swan plays a very technical guitar.

This band has eight albums and has been around since 2005. They are not a flavor of the month. They've been building a fan base...possibly in a similar fashion to the way Phish did it throughout the 90's and 2000's.

BS. It was played at Darkside Estates.

That's a song for the ladies, my friend. You can't judge them based on the ballad each album requires.

And they have the best bridges in their songs: https://youtu.be/83eZDZTHYfI?t=139
