Kinda sounds like Paul Rose needs to do his homework.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT: when i'm [rarely allowed to be] out in the world doing my thing and i say "have a nice day!" to someone and they retort "you too!" back, i'll often go "hey i fucking hate that band [U2] so can you please say "[yo]u 2pac" or something a little more amenable to us people who have souls?"

seriously, i might as well have a "that white boy's crazy"-o-meter installed in my dashboard cuz i encounter so many of those that you could probably measure them against units of time and get a fun # =P

U2 was a terrific band for many years.

As for this Paul Rose thing, I don't hear any direct theft. It just sounds like a bunch of noodling in the style of Achtung Baby's guitar sound. It's a big nothing.

ok, so now that you've said this platitude that will get everyone to think you're a good-ol-fashioned well balanced everyman that nobody would suspect is "one of those weirdos" so you're probably cleared to marry their daughter/s if it ever comes to that-- what do you really think about U2? =P

(i know, i know... i'm just breaking your e-balls here!)

oh and btw, re: "[yo]u 2pac!" aka "you 2pac!" twitter seriously perma-suspended my @whitetupac account b4 i could ever make a tweet! talk about some fucking world, no, galaxy-class haterade, huh? =/

How much modern U2 hate is predicated only on "Beautiful Day," "Elevation," and "Vertigo" getting overexposed while Bono stretched his arms out like Jesus too much? I can't picture someone listening to "Surrender" or "The Unforgettable Fire" and being like "god fuck this fucking band so much, kill White America."

U2 stole Paul Rose's demo after they finally hit the big time and signed to Island in 1989.
The label needed a hit from these fresh faced Irish up and comers. It didn't work.
The members of U2 packed up their gear and went home, never to be heard from again.
Paul Rose can't leave well enough alone and bathe in his own artistic and financial glories.....NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He decides to sue them 26 years later for $5 million. Just for shits and giggles.
I hope Paul Rose sleeps well at night.

Joe Satriani should sue Paul Rose for stealing his 1987 guitar tone.

why wait 26 years? The conspiracy theorist in me says U2 stopped paying hush money.

Nope, they were making great music up through Passengers in 1995 and Brian Eno's production was very influential.

I don't think I followed U2 after Achtung Baby but hard for me to call them garbage for the stuff pre 93/94 that I was exposed to. Was never a huge fan but did enjoy the early stuff, I imagine I still would if for nothing more than nostalgia these days.

War, The Unforgettable Fire, The Joshua Tree, and Achtung Baby are all 9.5/10 albums, at least. It's difficult to find fault with any of them unless you're coming in with "durrrr bono is a pud." And honestly, I'd rather have Bono up on stage acting like his music can save the world than Mick Jagger looking 85 years old and embalmed doing a stupid chicken walk to some boring plinky-plonky white blues.

Underrated song, in my opinion.

Taking their whole career, U2 is trash. They started off fine. Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby are OK. Had they stopped in 92 I wouldn't think they are trash. But everything that came afterwards is PTFB bullshit.

Then ignore all the bad stuff (and the cutoff is '95, not '92). I've not once listened to No Line on the Horizon because I figured it must suck.

There would be a lot of bands/singers that would be dog crap if you focused on their later years vs earlier years. I tend to grab a hold of what I like when it comes to music and pretend the rest never happened.

I feel that way about Rush. With rare example (e.g., Nobody's Hero, The Garden), I can hardly listen to anything post-Signals.

And Elton John.

Those are probably the most glaring for me...but as brogue said, MANY artists follow that pattern.

Prince after the black album, Springsteen after Nebraska, Bowie after Let's Dance, Dylan after Desire

Billy Joel is one of my favorites but he hasn't released anything new in 30 years.

Just a terrible post.

So the run of 8 awesome albums is washed out by the last 3?

All that You Cant Leave Behind was great, too.

With this system of judging, youd have to say The Rolling Stones are trash.

U2 is top 5 Rock Band of all time and anyone who disagrees is a Nazi

I'm in the minority but give me "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" over any other U2 album, save Achtung Baby.

Swap out 'Bomb' and put 'Pop' in those quotes and I feel the exact same way.

You cannot honestly call U2 trash. Not liking them, or Bono, or saying they are overrated and/or overloved is a different story. I am not a Rush fan by any means, but they certainly are not trash. I PTFB on them every single damn time they are on the radio and I would rather Chinese water torture for a year than listen to Tom Sawyer three consecutive times, but I cannot call them trash.

I'm not sure you can say ignore 20 years of their music so easily.

If they were so great why create two decades of garbage?

I dunno, happens in rock music. And fortunately, twenty years only ends up being five kinda-not-great albums (and I don't even think some of those are bad, just not great) against nine in fifteen years that are pretty great. I don't think the mere existence of Songs of Innocence diminishes The Joshua Tree in any way.

Any artist from the 60's that was still releasing music in the 80's. Lots of bad there in that decade.
