came across a song on a cassette from about late 1989-early 1990.
It was played on a "New Music Sunday" night show, so I'm guessing the song was quite new at the time.
Best way I could describe it would be "Morrissey fronting Big Country or Killing Joke" or some shit.
The singer definitely sounds like English is his first language, but I'm guessing the band is not American.
Probably from the UK.
Great drums, very good bass line a la Simon Gallup or Peter Hook, maybe a little busier, very melodic.
Guitar tracks definitely had some The Edge influence.
The lyrics are hard to make out, but there's a line that stands out in the chorus....
"I was only...trying to make the world(words?)...more....perrrrrrrrr-sonnnnn-alllllllll (personal)".
The radio station was in Portland Oregon, but the recording didn't sound like it would've been a local band or demo.
It had really good production values.
Google and SHazam were useless. This was on a friend's FB page, but now it's driving me nuts.
Any guesses, guys?
Thanks
