Common (prod by DJ Premier)- The 6th Sense That may be the greatest rap song period. Sini, you have to top that. |

whoa that chief keef song.... is a thing. a definite thing. the first song that comes to mind for me is, uhhhh, antithetical to the chief keef song.... qwazaar - quantum leaf and then like.... shit, as far as street shit goes for the high/weed/drugs track no love for crucial conflict - hay? as far as street shit street shit goes you've got da smart - walk wit me as far as comsense goes it's too easy to go with resurrection/i used to love H.E.R. and i've always been partial to take it e-z... |

IMU wrote: Do Morton Grove rappers count? you know, when i was doing all my freestyles back in 2009 i called it "morton grove's finest: a freestyle history 2009-2016" or something (in honor of big L's harlem's finest: a freestyle history 95-98) and i wanted to get the morton grove cops to get a few cars and a few guys together striking a pose and i'd be laying down in front of them like WHASSSSSUPPP!?!?!? but the dude/s i brought up to kind of laughed it off. incidentally MGPD played a key role in the creation of my fuck galapagos 4 freestyle. when i realized that upon sending a heartfelt (and honestly a bit wordy) e-mail to the galapagos 4 record label like "hey i'm pretty sure i'm killing these raps and you guys are a record label that i'd love to 'fuck with' as i try to do some authentic chicago stuff creeping on the come up and rah rah rah blah blah blah i think there's big things in my future and it'd be an honor to learn the ropes from you guys and etc" i didn't just not get a response but furthermore i was deemed persona non grata @ the galapagos4.com messageboards (which i had been on for like 5-6yrs at that point) like "where'd my account go?" when i tried to log in a few days later and my account wasn't there. then i sign up again and within a day or so that account's deleted and i try it one more time and same fate.... and it's not like i was trying to politic or anything, it was just general "what the fuck? i've been here for years" so yeah i ended up snapping on the head of the label dude's voicemail circa 2-230am one night outside of the library here so a cop rolls up like "oh it's you.... yeah we had a call about noise complaints..... [finds out my end of things] well hey you're a rapper don't rappers go and make a diss track to deal with this sort of thing?" indeed he was right, so i went home and grabbed a mic and welp.... the rest is non-chicago non-history cuz i'm a non-existant non-rapper. |

Common Sense - Soul By The Pound (LP Version) Not the remix which is basically just a freestyle. If I had to put together a top 10 with only one song per artist or group, it would go something like this: Common Sense - Soul By The Pound LP Version (1992) All Natural - It’s OK (1997) Stony Island - Basement Seasonings (1992) Juice - All That Glitters (1995) Spalaney’s - Switchblade (1995) Rhymefest - How We Chill (1995) Rubberoom - Buckwild (1994) Undaground Soulution & Tony Baines - The Meaning (1995) Vakill, Rhymefest & Percee P - Keep The Fame (1996) East Of The Rock - Galaxy Rays (1994) The golden age of Chicago hip hop coincided with my high school years (1992-1996). How’s that for timing. |
