We dont have as many hip hop fans here as we used to, but what the hell

Inspired by Conrad from Something to Wrestle with describing Shook Ones Part II as a beat that don't age.

That is definitely true.

Shook Ones Part II- Prodigy
Deep Cover- Dr. Dre
Mass Appeal - DJ Premier
Juice - Eric B.
Can't Truss it- Bomb Squad
Shadowboxing- Rza

Apache predates The 'Amen' Break? You sure? I don't recall the year of 'Funky Drummer' either.

I guess not. But I always thought that was James Brown. And honestly, most of his (and the JBs) cuts predate Apache, but I presumed we weren't going the easy route with the Godfather.

But, excellent point anyway :D

These beats are more of the contemplative variety, I guess you could say. They tend to be the most timeless for me.

Common Sense - Thisisme
Souls of Mischief - 93 Til Infinity
Ed OG & The Bulldogs - Love Comes And Goes
Large Professor - Ijuswannachill
Funkdoobiest - Rock On
The Juggaknots - Clear Blue Skies
Charizma - Methods
Gift Of Gab - 40 Ounce For Breakfast
Gift Of Gab - Shallow Days
Eligh - Moving 99
Dereliks - The Phrase That Pays
K-Otix - Take My Life
Reflection Eternal - 2000 Seasons
Organized Konfusion - Invetro

This was a hidden track at the end of side one of the Daily Operation cassette, and then it was officially included on Hard To Earn in 1994 even though they recorded it in 1991.

Quote:
DJ Premier: It was supposed to be on Daily Operation, but the label wasn’t rolling with it. They just wanted to leave it the way it was. The buzz, however, was so big, we re-mastered it and tacked it onto the album, but then [the label] just didn’t do the re-pressings. I think we would’ve gone, maybe even platinum. ‘DYWCK’ was that big. We were upset, so we said, ‘Let’s at least put it somewhere down the line because even if they don’t want anything on the album, if they want ‘DWYCK’ on it, they’ll cop’em.’ So that’s why we put that on Hard to Earn.

There is a documentary about this on Netflix. It is narrated by Gene Simmons, for some reason that never became clear to me while watching it.

Good one.

I would put "Hate it or Love it" on there too, but I feel like that one never get the mass appeal or recognition.

Save the "Anything by _____" posts.

I mean we could just say DJ Premier and that's a wrap but that's no fun.
