Why are you dreading it?

Was just fine when I went there 25 years ago. I’m sure it’s the same!

there aren't seats are there? you just stand there amongst drug-addled goofs dancing and gyrating about. I cannot think of anything more miserable.

Get there early enough to get a spot on the main floor at a rail. Good sight lines and minimal hassle, with one caveat. The key once you’ve got a spot is to form an impenetrable wall with your daughter as late-comers will try to squeeze into your space at every opportunity. Seriously. If the main floor rails are filled then the front rail on the balcony is the next best spot.

There's seating on the upper floor, just not on the main floor. Get there early and you should be able to get a good seat.

I was going to say just go up to the balcony. Or drop off your kid and head down the street to Matilda.

All this is excellent advice - eggzactly why I asked. I am trying to get her to bring a friend but apparently she listens to oddball crap that the other girls don't know. I'm willing to pay one of her friend's way, but nobody's innerested as of yet.

if she's old enough to be into bands that tour the Vic, plenty old enough to uber to and from the show without a chaperone. unless she's differently abled; then you could probably just put on a youtube of the band and she'll never know the diff.

I'd feel like a heel just letting her go by herself. Fingers crossed we can find somebody female and under 18 to go with her.

I saw Circa Survive last November at the Vic. It was good. I sat upstairs...great view, and I didn't have to mosh with the 20-somethings.

Uhh...not that early?

My girlfriend and I got there when the first band was on. We were back behind the main floor grabbing a drink and taking it in. Before the second (of 3) bands went on, we went up to the balcony and it was pretty empty. It did not get full until the main act went on, and even then there were some open seats.

Most concert goers want to be on the main floor.

I see The New Pornographers are there Wednesday. I think I'll go.

I don't know what you and your daughter are going to see. But yeah, I have to imagine there will be one or two opening bands. You don't need to be there for when the doors open or the first band goes on, unless your daughter throws a fit.

I saw the Mountain Goats at the Vic and enjoyed it very much. Watched the opening act from the balcony, then went downstairs and got pretty close to the stage. Joint's got character.

Who are you seeing?

I'm sure you are all eager to find out how my adventure went. We pretty much got there around 6:15 and snagged first row seats in the balcony. The first of two lesbian acts (musical performance only) started around 7:00. Alternative music fans might want to give a listen to Miya Folick - I enjoyed it. Bishop Briggs went on maybe 9:10 and finished 10:45.

It wasn't nearly as horrible as I feared. But I would have been absolutely MISERABLE if I had to stand on the main floor for 4+ hours. Eventually the balcony got to be about 60-70% full. No mosh pit or anything downstairs. Pretty much a sardine can so you couldn't thrash about even if you wanted to. The barkeep made a nice Shirley Temple for only $5. Not bad! Brought earplugs in case, but it wasn't THAT loud. Crowd age ranged from like 7 to 70. Mostly 25-35 crowd. All white.

I think maybe I enjoy lesbian music. Though BB is not a full-time lesbian I guess. She's kind of cute. Very perky personality.
