And bass. On Stairway JPJ played bass, too, along with the mellotron. Very well I might add.

Anything James Brown in the category is pretty darn good. Sex Machine is probably the best.

Zenyatta Mondatta has to be the best Police album, right? For all the great songs they had, they're more or less evenly distributed; no album towers above the rest and there's not a terrible one, either. It's that or Outlandos d'Amour, which is diamond-solid (more than rock-solid, you see) up through "Truth Hits Everybody" and then falls off a cliff. Synchronicity is about two-thirds classic and one-third crap.

Yeah, I'd agree only because of the gratuitous sax Sting added to Ghost. Synch...eh...I understand why but could pass. Danny Mac said that Outlandos is a favorite of his.

Recently I downloaded the remastered Outlandos that fixes the warble in the beginning of "Roxanne." It's so weird to hear it as it was meant to be heard without the pitch shift.

I love the beginning of Ghost in the Machine but lose interest after "Invisible Sun." Upon further consideration, I'd call it a three-way tie on Outlandos/Zenyatta/Synchronicity, then Ghost in the Machine, then Reggatta de Blanc.

:lol: :lol: While the math doesn’t work out perfectly the 2 songs Sting didn’t write certainly are the main contributors towards the 1/3 crap .

I still hold a grudge that Behind My Camel beat YYZ for the Grammy that year.

Is "Mother" the worst song on a canonical album? Could be. That or "Dr. Robert."

'Thank You' isn't even his best performance on that album. 'Ramble On' is, possibly 'What Is And What Should Never Be'.

Great bass line. Very fun to play. I'll list some of the ones I enjoyed playing the most back when I played a ton of bass;

'Disco Inferno'
'Will It Go Round In Circles'
'Got A Line On You'
'Gretzky' and 'Taller' (both Darkside/B51 originals)
'Twilight Zone'
'Sonic Reducer'
'I Loved You More Today Than Yesterday'
'Riding The Storm Out'

A couple of my favorites are;
'Crossroads' - Cream
'Dazed and Confused' - Led-Zeppelin
'Jeremy' -Pearl Jam

You Can’t Get What You Want - Joe Jackson ( Graham Maby on bass)

Mayor of Simpleton XTC ( Colin Moulding)

Rio- Duran Duran ( John Taylor )

Every Kind of People - Robert Palmer ( Bob Babbitt )

I saw them pre-Synchronicity at Alpine Valley. One of the best shows I've ever seen. They totally blew me away.

I really didn't like Synchronicity. They had become a huge band and the album just felt over the top. I saw them at Comiskey and fell out of love with them that day.

I love the Police. As others have said not every LP is all great songs and certainly that is true of Synchronicity. I really feel though they stopped at exactly the right time. The only Sting possibility to be a Police record was Dream of the Blue Turtles.

Is there a band in existence where every album was, front to back, awesome? I feel like everyone comes up with some clunkers here and there.

Not every one but there are a few bands (normally the hall of famers or whatever status you wish to give) that have 3 record run of almost perfect. Example for me Springsteen: BTR, Darkness and the River.
