I have noticed a change in my musical preferences over time. I used to not really like woman "rock" artists. I recall having this argument with my wife back in college. I mean there were a few exceptions like chrissie hynde or blondie or cyndi lauper even. Now listening to newish music I tend to prefer woman-type bands...Alvvays, Eliza & the Delusionals, grimes come to mind. complaints about there being very few rock and roll HOF women brought it to mind.... I dunno. random thoughts. |

Sleater-Kinney is certainly in the conversation about the best band of the 90s. Here are some real pioneers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOm-8SYU7Qk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1quzB7hb7yk |

I do not get Sleater-Kinney at all. Their music does absolutely nothing for me. |

I like Luscious Jackson and Liz Phair. I don't know if either of them are still recording so if they've released material over the last 10 or 15 years I've likely missed it, but I enjoyed their work prior to that. Years ago, a friend of mine had a Drain STH CD that had some good songs. They were easy on the eyes, too: |

Liz Phair has a new album coming out this year, I think. |

Pat Benatar was pretty fucking rad. The Go-Go's were very underrated...until Belinda Carlisle becae a Pop star. I like what I've heard from The Pretty Reckless. Lizzy Hale is fucking awesome. GoldenJet brought up Blondie in another thread...she was awesome. Chrissy Hynde was a badass and a great songwriter. They put out a pretty good number of records, but only one was any good.....The Donnas "spend the night" is 12 songs of kick-ass rock. The problem is, you have wastes like Gwen Stefani discrediting woman rockers. I've always appreciated women rockers. |

Dig Me Out rocks as hard as anything any group of guys has ever done. I'm not big on female drummers. I like a guy with a cock and balls driving a band. But Janet can hold her own with any dude. Songs like "One More Hour" and "Modern Girl" have a lot of emotional power. |

Love female singers in every genre, including progressive rock/metal (Delain, Evanescence, Ayreon, etc) but very few women appeal to me as rock musicians. Heart and The Bangles are a couple exceptions. |

I bark at Pink Floyd and Rush a lot because most of their songs suck, but even then I can recognize their greatness and why people would fall in love with those bands. I have never been able to figure out why people do that with S-K. |

I find myself listening to 95.5 on the way home some nights. It is not an exaggeration to say that most modern country songs sound like they were written in a lab, or by a committee. The protagonists are always vaguely moral, proudly rural, and their problems,, adveraries, etc. are usually nameless and vague. You can almost always finish the lyrics yourself without having heard the songs before. The exceptions, when there are any, are ALWAYS the female artists. Any chance-taking, heart-felt-ness, and honesty in current country music is only going on with the girl singers. Also, I don't know how you get 10 posts deep in this thread and not mention Joan Jett or Patti Smith. |

I never liked Heart for whatever reason. Though I only know their big hits. As a 10-year old, I knew there was something very inneresting about Joan Jett, I just wasn't sure exactly what. |

They're a helluva lot better as a group than say, women comedians. |

Joan Jett, Blondie, Dale Bozzio (Missing Persons), The Go-Go's, The Bangles in the 80's Liz Phair, Alanis Morrisette, L7, Mia Zapata (The Gits), Veruca Salt in the 90's And to be honest, for Liz Phair and Alanis, there are about 3 albums I like between them. |

I think Alanis Morrisette turned me off female music and almost females altogether. man I couldn't stand her whining and warbling. |
