I'm sure this has been covered since you can't throw a rock in here without hitting a thread about country music. But, I thought I'd throw this in here since I thought it was funny/strange. Bucky Covington, who was a gangly looking country singer on American Idol a few years ago, released a song called A Different World which is currently the #1 song on CMT. Anyway, the lyrics harken back fondly to the good old days when kids ate lead-based paints, pregnant women chain smoked and got drunk, and people didn't wear seat belts (can you imagine?). Anyway here they are, weird tune, but I kind of like it anyway - We were born to mothers who smoked and drank Our cribs were covered in lead-based paint No childproof lids No seatbelts in cars Rode bikes with no helmets and still here we are Still here we are We got daddy's belt when we misbehaved Had three TV channels you got up to change No video games and no satellite All we had were friends and they were outside Playing outside It was a different life When we were boys and girls Not just a different time It was a different world School always started the same everyday the pledge of allegiance, then someone would pray not every kid made the team when they tried We got disappointed but that was alright We turned out alright It was a different life When we were boys and girls Not just a different time It was a different world No bottled water We'd drink from a garden hose And every Sunday, All the stores were closed. It was a different life When we were boys and girls Not just a different time It was a different world It was a different life When we were boys and girls Not just a different time It was a different world It was a different world |

Quote: Had three TV channels you got up to change
So Bucky's like 60? I'm 37 and barely remember TV's without a remote. |

Sounds to me like an artist finally used their own stereotype for profit. Oh, wait... rap has done that for years. Nevermind. |

On the first TV I remember, we had to change the channel with needle-nosed pliers. Being the youngest, I was the remote. |

School always started the same everyday the pledge of allegiance, then someone would pray But that all ended when the liberals had their way |

I'll add a verse: We had three chevrolets parked in the front yard Two on cinder blocks with the hood popped up Daddy's always fixin to fix'em all up But he's always drunk, though the county's dry |
