Post subject:  Great suggestions

Thanks to a couple of youngsters suggestions on the board I picked up 'Wolfmother ' and 'Sick Puppies' and I'm hooked.

I really like 'Wolfmother' . They have a bit of a Black Sabbath feel to them . Very young looking group and I've been cranking their song ' White Unicorn' in the truck all day .

Wolfmother is somehow derivative of the greats (Sabbath, Zeppelin), yet awful. I recommend just listening to Physical Graffiti.

I always thought Wolfmother had a little more LedZep in them than Sabbath. The best Sabbath-worship in recent years has to be Electric Wizard's
Dopethrone (2000) or, a little further back, Sleep's Holy Mountain (1993). Both are tremendous, epic albums.

There's also a Japanese band called Boris that have made their mark with Sabbath-esque heaviness. Just a look at their album titles (Heavy Rocks, Flood, Amplifier Worship) and this image:

And you know pretty much all you need to know about them. Pretty great stuff.

The label Boris started out with, Southern Lord, also released the first few QOTSA and Kyuss albums, if I'm not mistaken. There's also an English label called Rise Above that I regularly throw way too much money at. Rise Above specializes in all things involving drugs and guitars, from newer (primarly European) bands to "lost and found" reissues.

Wolfmother is so disappointing to me because I think the guy has a great voice, they have a fantastic sound and great gear, yet they are just playing shitty punk songs with occasional heavy, awesome riffs in them.

They tricked me.

Boris is good, but to be honest...when it comes to Souther Lord...I am all about Sunn o))).

Good call on the Sword. Torche (ex-Floor) are similar in style and also very "siqq."

The Sword are very good.

Do you still want that Floor/Spazz split? We got a loan from the in-laws to bail us out this month and don't need to sell all our vinyl anymore. If you still want it, it is yours, though.

I left that one out for a reason!

I actually haven't even heard it, yet, so that's the true reason. I've been told it's great, but I don't see how anything can top Flood.

Going to be out in the burbs anytime soon?

I am planning on attending your game at Alexian, so maybe we can do it then if not before.

I actually haven't paid that league yet, and I'm a little undecided about playing for them, as I've heard some bad things about the fields they use (i.e. some don't even have MOUNDS), so there's a chance I won't be playing that game on July 9th, I'll keep you posted.

As for the suburbs, whenever I think I'm gonna make it out there next, I'll let you know. Lunch @ that frankfurter joint, perhaps?

The one in Streamwood we hung out at the last time I was out there, to return your HD. I just like a good frankfurter.

I like Wolfmother. I agree that I get more of Led Zeppelin influence vibe. No, they're not re-inventing the wheel, but in today's crapfest of Rock music these guys stand out to me.

There is no station that really plays new rock in this town . We have 5 Hip-Hop , top 40 stations , Q-101 , The Loop , WXRT WOULD BE THE ONLY SO-Called rock stations. If your a rock band your screwed unless your U2 or another Monster rock band .

You have people giving asswipes like these American Idol winners top billing as to what type of music radio stations want to play . I like some Hip-Hop but it's all starting to sound the same and I think we need to get back to the roots of rock music and start putting some new stuff out .

Why anyone would ever listen to FM radio ever is beyond me.

TM, he is afraid of babies, so that wouldn't work.

SFA and I are to be wed at Streamwood's "Dolphin Stadium" with a reception at Chiggy's on Irving Park Rd.

I listen to FM radio for the Magestic Gent, Herb Kent, on V103, all-day Saturday and Sunday. If they're still doing Throwback Thursdays on Power 92, that's cool, too. Everything else can go f itself.

Chiggy's has great gyros. I used to live in Schaumburg, and would go to a friend's house in Elgin on Sundays, because he had the NFL Ticket on Direct TV. We used to "get Chiggy with it" every Sunday.
