Your top 5 or 10?

1. Crosby, Stills and Nash
2. The Doors
3. Van Halen
4. Jimi Hendrix Experience
5. Simon and Garfunkel
6. Cars
7. Metallica
8. Bruce Springstein
9. Michael Jackson (ok, single artist)
10. Eagles

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers need to be on the list. The record company wanted Petty solo but he wanted to be in a band and they functioned as a band.

This list has more holes in it than swiss cheese.

I would not classify CSN, Simon & Garfunkel, or Michael Jackson as "rock." Also, Graham Nash is British.
I'm not a bigfan, but Aerosmith probably deserves to be on there
I can understand not putting all of them on there, but at least one of the big three from Seattle- Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden- are in the top ten no question
I won't quibble about Jimi himself, but the other two in the Experience- Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding- were British.

I'd put Elvis in there as a single artist ahead of Michael.

Elvis was a popstar to an extent as well, but definitely more Rock than Michael Jackson was.

At least Rube is consistent. He has terrible thoughts on everything.

Even though again I am not a bigfan, one of your favorites- GNR- also belongs on that list.

Tomorrow, Rube is going to make a greatest British rock bands list, and include Neil Young and Sinead O'Connor.

 sounds right.

GNR definitely would make the top 10. Aerosmith and one of the Seattle bands has to be on there.

Objectively yes. If the thread was titled "My favorite American acts," different story. But its not, so Rube sucks.

Half of this list is hilarious

Also, is Bruce Springstein a rabbi?

CCR, Talking Heads, Allman Bros .. Terrible lists to omit these bands.

Now that is a much better list. Not the order I would have them in, but that is more about personal preference.

I know it's not in vogue, but I would add more "classic rock" bands:

Journey
Styx
Cheap Trick
Toto
Kansas

Probably not my exact order...just off the top of my head.

Kamelot

Over rated? Dude I get that you might not dig their music but they were spectacular live. It's not easy to improvise around a melody for an hour. I frigging love the dead. Their studio stuff to me is meh but the live recordings are remarkable.
