Not just the first time you heard them but one that constantly move you.
to me it is basically two.
To Much Love Will Kill You-Queen. Just knowing the story behind it and I was moved but the first time I heard Freddie sing it I broke down.

If I have to go-Tom Waits. Love Waits and when my brother passed was the first ime I heard this one. I broke down hard as it is somethings my bro would say if he had the chance.

I got others but what are yours?

Cats in the Cradle. My dad passed a couple years back and now my son heads off to college in August. When I was the young kid in the first part of that song it was all good but now im getting to be the old guy at the end.

Tom Waits corners the market on heart-tugging songs. "take it with me", "martha", and the one chas mentioned. there are plenty of others too.

"up from under" - the wallflowers
"keep me in your heart" - warren zevon
"it's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday" - boyz ii men
"gloomy sunday" - billie holiday

another one for me is the song "Orange Sky" by Alexi Murdoch. Its a nice song on its own merit but what makes it a very sad song for me is that a number of years ago a high school acquaintance passed away unexpectedly leaving his wife and 3 young kids, and a friend of his made a slide show chronicling his life to this song and posted it on Facebook, and i have to tell you it was about the saddest damn thing I ever watched and I didn't even really know the guy.

Pink Floyd - "Lost for Words" off 'The Division Bell'

It describes my relationship to a "T" with my father, he got divorced from my mother when I was at a very young age, went and got married to another woman, had two more kids (whom I've never met BTW) and wanted nothing to do with me... When I extended the olive branch when I got married umpteen years back trying to invite him (at my Wife's request), he basically told me to fuck off.

The correct answer is any ballad if you are sad enough. Especially piano songs.

It's odd though that I listen to Division Bell more than any other album.

I won't step on the land mine of pre-Waters departure and post-Waters departure, Dave Gilmour Floyd, but yea, 'The Division Bell' is an excellent album overall. The final song (after "Lost for Words"), "High Hopes" is another favorite of mine.

100 years by Five for Fighting didn’t mean that much to me when it came out but really strikes a chord as I’ve gotten older.

Usually about once or twice a year I’ll be driving home from work, maybe it was a good day, maybe it was a difficult day. Then “That’s My Job” by Conway Twitty will come on the radio and I’ll cry uncontrollably and realize what it’s all about.

Brick by Ben Folds
Skin by Rascal Flatts

On a much different note...

Pretty much any father-daughter song. I’ll be Your Man by Zac Brown Band, You’re Gonna Miss This by Trace Adkins, There Goes my Life by Kenny Chesney to name a few.

Came out not long after my dad died. It's always brought the tears.

Just like the scene from Princess Bride, "you killed my father...prepare to die."
