I went on a downloading rampage the other night, and scored some new albums, some which have not been released yet. Brief synopses: The Methadones This Wont Hurt... - Another solid effort from Chicago's finest power-pop outfit. Simple, catchy stuff. Between The Buried And Me Colors - It sounds like Mr. Bungle's Disco Volante, The Mars Volta's De-Loused In The Comatorium and Mastodon's Blood Mountain all got thrown in a blender together, which is fine, if you're into that sort of thing. I however, couldn't get halfway through the record. Les Savy Fav Let's Stay Friends - More emphasis on hooks on the indie rockers' comeback album, which is a good thing. Recommended. The Weakerthans Reunion Tour - Canada's version poppier of Wilco returns as well, with more adventures from Virtue The Cat as well as some sythns and studio trickery thrown into the mix. |

i'm a songwriter, so i can't either. i don't mind "jams" for the most part, but i don't know...i love dream theatre, but can't stand phish, or a lot of the dead's jam stuff, or dave matthews' jam stuff either. i remember doing a jam album with my friend, it was like an hour long session that we recorded...we tried listening to it and were like...uh, no. |

BTBAM is a guilty pleasure for me, I must admit. I think they try to hard to write crazy songs with bizarre tempo changes, but they pull it off well enough for me to spin it every now and then. |

Big thumbs up to the new Weakerthans. If you liked TV on the Radio's Return to Cookie Mountain, run, don't walk, to Soulseek for Celebration's The Modern Tribe. Great stuff here. |
