Wilco to Play "The Complete Wilco" in Chicago

With all the solo love Jeff Tweedy's been giving his hometown recently, Wilco's recently announced 2008 U.S. tour looked a little strange without a single date in Chicago. The band has remedied that situation, however, with a five-show residency at Chicago's Rivera Theatre, which will kick off the tour in mid-February.

According to a press release, the residency is "five shows exploring the band's complete recorded works," and Tweedy had this to say about it: "Over the five nights we will attempt the 'complete Wilco' and try to clear out the dusty corners of the catalog that we haven't attended to in a while."

What better way for Wilco to celebrate Sky Blue Sky's Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album (the band's fourth Grammy nod)?

Complete dates:

01-26 Chicago, IL - Vic Theatre (Jeff Tweedy solo)
02-15 Chicago, IL - Riviera Theatre

Well, it technically is, if Tweedy is back on the pain killers.

yeah, i'm not trying to be a dick or anything, i'm just super bored by wilco and others of their ilk. i get the appeal, but it's a tired act, and despite the way their image is pushed i don't see anything humble about this band, which just kind of creeps me out.

in a lot of ways, i think they're very similar to REM, back in the day. huge, arguably deserved success, but gratingly obnoxious to the hometown crowd.

Not sure I would call Wilco "gratingly obnoxious" to the hometown fans. I would, however, definitely describe the "hometown" fans as gratingly obnoxious and uniformly the worst part of seeing a show in Chicago. Chicago Wilco fans are some of the most intolerable boors in the world of music fandom. I much rather see a Wilco show outside Chicago--their concerts in Virginia, Milwaukee, Boston and New York have been much more relaxed and enjoyable for me.

As for the stand at the Riviera, I might be interested in seeing those shows if they promised to play absolutely nothing on Sky Blue Sky and only a couple of songs from A Ghost Is Born. The late January Tweedy solo show will probably be the most enjoyable concert of the Chicago group, as Tweedy is always great solo, and usually quite talkative and funny.

from what i understand about this 5-night stand is that they will be performing every album, every song. if that's the case, i'll have to try to pinpoint when they will do YHT. i'm thinking saturday. i guess i'll roll the dice and cross my fingers. i'd be happy with a summerteeth/yht night :D :D

The 5-night stand will encompass the entire Wilco catalog, but I don't think individual concerts will focus exclusively on a single album. Each show will be a mix, no?

i have no clue, but i envisioned something similar to this:

day 1: a.m./guthrie material/misc
day 2: being there
day 3: summerteeth/yht
day 4: ghost is born/SBS
day 5: mix

????
