Anyone know of a simple, easy-to-use interface or device that I could use to record vocals and instruments on? I know practically nothing about the recording process, so the simpler the better? |

there are multiple questions here. an interface and a program for sampling/recording are completely different animals. you need a usb or firewire breakout box to accept the XLR or 1/4". you also need a program to record said input. |

XLR= mic cable 1/4" = regular guitar cable We use an Mbox with ProTools to record. Its not cheap, but with mixing and the right mics and such, its actually professional radio quality. |

I actually have an MBox with Live 6, however I have recently learned that Windows Media Center does not support the program... correctly? Is there any other software that I could use that is Media Center compatible? |

It's just the OS that came with the computer when we bought it. Everything else works fine with it besides the interface I bought, and there are basically just a few movie and photo applications that come along with that OS. |

I got a EMU 0202 (USB interface) for X-Mas this year. It came with a pretty large software bundle too. They were not the full version, but they can do basic recording and editing. They have a basic tutorial of how to record a few tracks on each software that can get you going in 30 min or so. |
