Actually, one more. I am not a big fan of country in general, but Drive By Truckers, specifically Decoration Day, is pretty good. Lyrics are pretty funny on their albums.

Alright, so I listened to all four today, and I gotta say it was quite the mix of genres.

I listened to Angels and Airways (AVA as the kids like to say) and was pleasantly surprised. I never really liked the lead singer when he was in Blink 182, but somehow his vocals on this album worked for me. I would definately listen to it again.

Next was Five Finger Death Punch, and let me get this out of the way: I don't like Slipknot. I know, I'm from Iowa, I've been told I HAVE to like them. But no, I really don't, and that's what these guys reminded me of. Only thing that let me know it wasn't them was there wasn't the ringing of a keg every other beat (of course, this was a welcome omission.) That being said, I probably would pass on this album.

Next was NoFX, and I'm still kind of debating whether to keep it on my Mp3 player or not. Usually I don't like an album full of short songs, but this wasn't all that bad. Plus, I swear I recognize one of the songs from a video game (can't remember the game, but the song was 'Jeff Wears Birkenstocks') It also seemed like there was at least three different lead vocalists on the album, which is something I always enjoy.

Finally, Miles Davis. Alright, so I had heard the name before, and had a feeling that he played some sort of brass instrument, but I was confused once I started listening to it, because I barely picked up any trombone, or sax, or whatever it is he plays. About five minutes into it, I thought "maybe this guy is the guitar player" because he seemed to be the center of attention. That being said, it was a really good album to work to, and the drummer was doing some crazy shit that made me start kicking my feet to the music.

All in all, it was a pretty good set, and I know a couple are going to get listened to again. Thanks Hoffy, it made the day interesting.

Miles mostly was a horn player, but about the time of this album from what I read he was doing a lot with guitar experimentation, which is why you hear the guitar getting most of the attention.

Decoration Day is an album that starts with a song about people being jailed for incest, and then the next song is about a farmer killing a man trying to buy his farm and rolls into the third song aptly titled “Hell No I Aint Happy”. The entire album focuses on suicide, death, divorce and drinking your depression into oblivion. The song “Decoration Day” is about a war between families that has claimed way too many lives. DD is one of, if not the best album of this decade, but to consider it humorous is just plain wrong.

They wrote the first song based on the only consensual brother/sister incest. The fact that they are finding these inspirations for their music are more of where I find the humor in. Either way, we agree on it being a great album.

Man, it's scary to think I was seeing Dream Theatre in concert when Jake was probably being born.

I saw Dream Theatre on the Images and Words tour in 1993 at Spotlites in Cedar Rapids, IA. So I'm guessing you were still crapping in a diaper.
