Fuck, they're playing Double Door on New Year's Eve with The Life and Times.
$65 a pop, though.

I highly recommend both these bands.

That includes open bar. For New Years eve, that's a pretty good deal.

Open bar?
Sort of, I guess. No bottled beer (at least for free).
And I've been to a few NYE shows, Local H ($50) @ DD in 1997, Flaming Lips/Hum ($46) @ Metro in 2000. $65 does seem a little steep. Shit, Swervedriver hadn't toured in 10 years and those tix were only like $20 back in June. I honestly believe they install Keystone Light (or insert any other shit beer) kegs on the day of show, and serve that when the tap handles say Becks (or insert any other
Quality Beer).

They don't employ extra bartenders, at least not in my experience, so the wait is ridiculous.
So basically, the free booze isn't much of an incentive.

It's ok, I saw TLAT a couple times this year, and I've seen Hum a lot.
The wife probably made other plans anyway.

I saw Local H at the Double Door on NYE in 05 or 06, and I wasnt turned down for anything at the bar. I got any bottle or Draft beer I wanted and cocktails. The only thing they would probably exclude would be top shelf and shots. The wait wasnt ridiculous for me. If you take care of your bartender, he will take care of you all night.

Free booze is always an incentive.

I don't know that I'd be able to recover in time for the Winter Classic from this...

Stay up? Would it help if I was there, holding daisies? I'm always waiting for you....

BTW - when the hell are the single gamers going on sale for that damn game? I'd like to pick some up, if possible.

Agreed, but Downward Is Heavenward is the in a tie for Pack Up The Cats as the most criminally under-performing (both got great reviews but sold next to nothing) rock album of the 90s.

Fixed.
Who wins in a "What Can I Tell You" vs. "Dreamboat" cage match? :D

That's merely the under-card to "The Scientists" vs. "Hit The Skids Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying And Love The Rock".

"What Can I Tell You" in a judges decision (better coda - whistling vs. fade out).

"The Scientists" in a TKO.

Agree on "The Scientists". I'd have to give my vote to "Dreamboat", though.

"Back in The Day" vs. "The Pod"?.
The Pod gets my vote.

This is fun.

P.S. - Crow, have you heard "Aphids" by Hum.
It was on a single. In fact, here it is.

http://www.h-u-m.net/downloads/mp3s/puppets/

I would imagine it's a safe download.
Why this was a B-side, I have no idea. One of my favorites by them.
the 1st song is cool too.

I declare a draw, but "Back In The Day" gets bonus points for the lyrics to the opening verse, even though they're barked completely incoherently.

Well punk is dead
And yeah, you're next
But it seems no one has told you yet
So hardcore
You must be sore
You come on like a major threat

i've always liked "You'd Prefer An Astronaut" over "Downward is Heavenward," irony being that i have two copies of the latter and, currently, none of the former (save for mp3). my copies of "Downward" are on blue and clear vinyl. i will sell you one for several hundred spacebucks.

NYE is between hosting a party at my apt or going to smartbar for green velvet. i would do HUM but my gf is super not into it.
