The wife surprised me yesterday when she told me she is going to get tickets for
the Friday night show. This should be a great venue to see Dylan. I didn't think he
would be coming back through since he played Summerfest in July. Looks like the
Aragon holds about 4500 max. I haven't been there in almost 15 years. Anyone
else considering going? Suggestions on places to eat or drink before hand would be
much appreciated. Also, what is the parking situation like in that area?

don't let him scare you...after 6 the parking is free.
Park on Winthrop, just south of Argyle (diagonal parking west side of the street) and walk a block and half. you'll be fine.

btw: the Aragon kinda sucks for sound.

Kinda? It sounds like a tar pit
I was just joking about the parking....I've probably been there at least 10-15 times in the past 5-6 years, never had an issue.

I've never paid for parking at the Aragon or the Riv. There is plenty of side street, non-permit parking available. I have never parked more than 3 blocks from the venue. If driving isn't your thing, the red line has a stop right next door to the Aragon. It isn't a bad neighborhood either, but Im guessing the post above was a joke.

if you can get within 20 feet of the stage the sound is decent b/c you hear the stage sound more than the monitors.

Wouldn't be surprised if all 3 shows sell out. Thanks all for the info. I am sure it won't
be the best sounding concert but it is Bob Dylan and while he isn't all that easy on the ears
I am sure he won't be that horrible live. I last saw him 12 years ago.
I know most of his songs so I should be able to help translate to my wife.
We never do stuff like this so I was surprised she even got tickets. I remember parking
there years ago for Megadeth and didn't remember it being much trouble. Doug, thanks
for the tip on the bar, we'll likely stop in. The wife wanted to do dinner so any food
suggestions would be great, otherwise, we'll just have a few drinks before heading in
and eat later. Hey Douchebag, it's not Bryan Adams but I do what I can....

dylan was my first concert, back in '93. he still used his "whine" voice, but the thing i learned about watching him live, and my dad concurred (he's seen him 2 or 3 times), is that he alters his songs so much sometimes you can't even tell what he's playing for a while...i remember when he played "maggie's farm" it took us a while to realize that's what he was playing.

W_Z he definitely switches things up with the songs which can either be
brilliant or maddening, sometimes examples of each during the same show.
It will be really interesting to see how it all turns out. I bought pre-sale
tickets which is supposed to get me in the venue a little early. Not sure
how that works but I will do my best to get close to the stage and just
try to enjoy the hell out of it. I haven't been to a concert in years.

Dylan rolls into Chicago in a week. Can't wait for next Friday. I have
been watching set lists of his shows and he is playing mostly current
songs with a few classics tossed in. I'll probably post his set lists from
Rockford and the first show next week for those interested. Apparently
on this leg of the tour he has not been hiding behind the keyboard all
night and has been coming up to center stage to play guitar and the
harp on select songs. I should be able to get pretty close to the stage
so I am stoked. He also has an old friend back playing guitar with him
by the name of Charlie Sexton. Apparently he is really tearing it up and
making the shows outstanding. I am not familiar with any of his work
solo or otherwise but if he is half as good as some of the reviews I have
read, it should be great.

RPB, this is what I have heard but I haven't seen it yet. Blockbuster didn't
carry it so I need to find it somewhere else. I have the soundtrack though
which is really good. I'll post my review of the show next weekend.

Good luck at the show! I can only hope he's in better voice than he was a few years back at Allstate.

Thanks. Reviews have been positive regarding his voice thus far, but that is relative when you are
talking about Dylan. I know what I am in for and will enjoy it either way, my wife may not.

Liberace...what a flamer.

For those who don't care for Dylan that is cool. I am just going to post a few

material usually dominating the sets.

 Yeah, I have gotten quite a few strange looks when people find out that is
the show I am going to see. I have heard there are all kinds that attend his shows.
I have enough gray hair to pass as a guy in his 40s so I should be ok.

Post subject:  Re: Dylan is playing the Brawl Room.

I kid you not, this was his review of the show last night in Rockford:

"It was too loud, I ended up wearing ear plugs and heard just fine. Great mix of blues, old war songs, and some covers of other people's music. Dylan is.............unique. I would have preferred being at a small club - people are disgusting in large groups. A lot of people ended up leaving their seats and filling up the aisles close to the stage and it made it really hard for everyone else to see. When other people asked them to move, they just ignored them. The ushers did a terrible job. People disgust me in large groups."

I told you, not exactly a "hip" 60-ish guy.
