My iPod needs some new band to give a listen to - I got a pair of 4 hour plane flights next week and want to give something new a try....I'm being completely random here and open to new stuff, probably the only stuff I'm not into right now are speed metal (my slayer days have passed) and really twangy country. Rap/hip hop fine....Just need to get a few cds off amazon and I'll give em a listen.

You didn't specify new or older music so I'll just give you a few I have been listening to.

Sick Puppies new CD (Tri-Polar) is pretty good, as is the older one (Dressed up as Life).

For an older CD if you haven't listened in a while or ever, try 311 titled "311".

If you like fitty', "Before I Self Destruct" is an interesting listen. Much more grindy and gritty than "Get Rich or Die Trying". I say interesting because I am still trying to get a feel for it. It has a kind of dark feel to it.

I don't know if you like Daughtry or not, I do - his new CD is pretty good.

A friend was mentioning 30 Seconds to mars - I know they are not new, but any fans in here? Any recommendations?

+1

Also, if you want something a little different, check out both Arcade Fire albums, and the Hold Steady

There are a couple of songs on the new CD that are tremendous (Don Zimmer). There is also a song featuring Kanye that I believe is pretty pretty good - I have to ask my wife what the good songs are - I have only listened to a couple.

- Kings and Queens is the big hit so far off the CD.

Pete yorn is another solid artist if you're looking for an alternative/singer-song writer type... I'd suggest buying his second album: The day I forgot

Currently downloading Them Crooked Vultures (Dave Grohl, John Paul Jones, Josh Homme (QOTSA)). I'll give a thumbs up or thumbs down in the near future.

Baby McNown,

Can you check back in a day or so and let me know how it is? I thought about DL'ing some of their songs as well.

Thanks

I just bought "Broke Down On The Brazos" by Gov't Mule on iTunes. Best buck I've spent in a while. This song is just so freaking cool.

SD I have not heard of Gov't Mule.

What genre?

Dave,
I guess they would widely be considered to be a jam band.
They started as an Allmann Bros. side project I believe.
I have been aware of their existence for some time and have
watched webcasts from like Bonnaroo or whatever, and they
were fine. Wouldn't call myself a fan.
Warren Haynes is an EXTREMELY talented guitar player.
I get that. But when I heard Broke Down On The Brazos on XRT the
other day, I had to stay in the car til they said who it was, although
I had a feeling it was Mule.
Here ya go - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpSJy4tATL8
though I would check out the studio version. Haynes
and Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top trade riffs at the end.
The song just fucking grooves!

Them Crooked Vultures is awesome. Regina Spektor is not bad, kind of a Tori Amos type singer. Gaslight Anthem's latest is good. The Dismemberment Plan's cd Emergency and I is good, got that from Stink. Also Changes is good from them.

I'll second the Regina Spektor thing, sje's pretty good. My wife listens to her. I cannot stand Tori Amos. Horrible.
