Who is they? Isn't the band just Corgan now? Even Chamberlain couldn't stand being around that douche anymore. He should be touring as Guns N Roses.

There should be a rule. If you cannot assemble 50% of the original band, you cannot use that band name.

you should do a little research...

Eight months after Jimmy Chamberlin left the Smashing Pumpkins, and seven months after SmashingPumpkins.com reported that Billy Corgan claimed still to have an “excellent relationship” with his former bandmate, Chamberlin now has offered his own comments on where the two stand.

HU reader Joe S. attended the drum clinic put on by Chamberlin last night in La Crosse, Wisconsin (some videos can be found here), and he posted a partial transcript of a recording he took:

I felt like there was stuff inside of me that I needed to, as an individual, as a father, as a husband, and as a musician that I needed to kind of explore my inner studio space a little bit more. And I didn’t think that being a drummer was what I needed to do at that particular point. Just if anyone has any questions…I am still friends with Billy. We still love each other. And more power to the Pumpkins, I think he deserves to go on with the name and the guy’s a great songwriter and he’ll go on to make a great record. So, let’s give it up for the man! [Crowd claps] As will I go on and make great music as well! [More crowd applause] As WILL YOU! [More applause] Because it’s not rocket science. All’s it takes is a spot you can see in the distance that’s where you want to get to. The rest is kind of easy. Once you have a vision of where you want to take it…you’ll get there!

Dude, if "Joe S." from LaCrosse says it's so, it's the gospel.

Billy Corgan couldn't sing if his life depended on it. He makes Jagger sound like Sinatra.

Finally agree with Kirk on something. "Song for a Son" sounded great for 30 sec or so, when it was just piano. Then the singing and the "rock" kicked in. Lame.

Also, Corgan in 20 years:

He can buy the old place @ Fullerton & Spaulding.

Not a bad career for a guy who can't sing.
I like WWMM better than SFAS.

I wouldn't say he "can't sing"

Some (lots) of people just find it annoying. I'm one of them. A lot of people don't like Robert Plant's voice. It worked for him too. Ho hum

yeah...people also find thom yorke's and or brian johnson's voices annoying..

Brian Johnson's is annoying. Bon Scott's was great though!

That's just fucking stupid. WWMM is a bad song. Nothing more, nothing less.

Could you give me an example of what a bad SP song is, Doug?

"Zero"

Only bad song on the 2xCD, imho. Sticks out like a sore thumb in the track sequence, too.

Post subject:  Re: Smashing Pumpkins - Teargarden by Kaleidyscope

 @ Zero...
o.k. so, when downloading WWMM i realized I had the pre MCIS double door show from 95.
well, having played there 2 nights before, i figured i'd listen to what they sounded at the venue i just played...
guess what song (and only song) i listened to for comparison...zero.
(see video attach in my sig)

shirtless:
half of MCIS and two Machina discs, i think, suck. pre gish 88-90, gish, siamese dream, pisces (which i had before pisces), adore (get's better every listen) bits of MCIS and Mach, and half of Zeitgeist. the aeroplane stuff is mostly meh...
9GB of audio on the hard drive and 40+c.d.'s...

that being said, i'm optimistically critical about my favorite band.

"Zero" has the proverbial Killer Riff but the lyrics are lame. "1979" is their best song. "Disarm" is hysterically overwrought. I was born in 1986 and have made it through life having only heard those three Smashing Pumpkins songs. Almost as proud of this as I am my sterling driving record.

"Drown" is their best song (imo), but "1979," despite how tired and overplayed it might be, is definitely up there in the top 5.

I think Siamese Dream is a great record, and I like most of Melon Collie. The rest...meh.

So, in other words, "1979" is the best SP song out of the 3 SP songs you've had the bad fortune of ever hearing in your 23/4 years on earth.
That, and you are a fantastic driver...
