Heard this song today on WDRV around noon. I dont know who the judges were in the fiddlin' contest, but Im sorry gentlemen, the Devil was clearly the winner and got hosed. Johnny should give the fiddle of gold and his soul back to said Devil. |

I agree 100%. The devil cooked up a brew. It sounded like he was conjuring demons and then he had that bass working too. Johnny is just another run of the mill hillbilly fiddler. |

The Devil really put himself in a pickle with this ill-conceived wager. Consider the options for judges: Angels? work for the competition, obviously have a predeliction towards diminishing The Devil's portfolio. Demons? Remanded to eternal fire for misdeeds, hardly a reliable sample pool. Who does that leave? Inhabitants of this ethereal plane. Homers! Unless of course you can put together an objective panel of nonsubscibers to the Christian concept of the afterlife, and I'm not sure what the likelihood is of rounding up 3 or more Buddhist fiddle afficionados in the deep south on such short notice. |

No. The devil bowed his head because he knew that he'd been beat. Even the devil knew Johnny kicked his ass. Besides who is gonna mess with a fiddle playing cracker in georgia? |

The Devil lost because his fiddle playing was not as good. The Devil had the band of Demons that joined in and they layed down a great beat but the actual fiddle playing by the Devil was just not up to the level of Johnny's. Plus it was a no lose for the Devil, if he won he got another soul and if he lost he gave away his golden fiddle but he is the Devil!! I am sure he can get himself another golden fiddle. |

I'm thinking that the Devil would exact revenge on the obviously biased judges. Keep in mind that because this song takes place in Georgia, the judges involved are probably Bible Thumper-types, so they would obviously give the vote to the pious Johnny anyway. The fact that the Devil's fiddle playing was sub-par is completely irrelevant. |

I think I would go see the Band of Demons in concert. They would have to be better than whatever is left of Lynyrd Skynyrd at this point |
