March 28, 2011 One of the most important bands of the last decade, LCD Soundsystem released three classic records, including the masterpiece Sound of Silver. "Losing My Edge" was perhaps the defining song of the 2000s: The name-dropping track is self-deprecating and self-aware in a way to which any music geek can relate.

As LCD Soundsystem heads into retirement — its last show takes place Saturday night at New York's Madison Square Garden — we decided to pay homage to a band that helped define the sound of new music. With artists name-checked directly in "Losing My Edge," we created a music stream that pays tribute to where LCD Soundsystem came from and where the band was first inspired.

"Someone Great" is one of the greatest sad songs I've ever heard.
Pitchfork is streaming the final show, I know what I'll be watching on Saturday.

One place I know I won't be on Saturday night is sitting in front of my computer.

This was a giant kick in the crotch for me. I can see him/them making great songs for a long time to come, but if that's not what he wants to do with his life, so be it. It's his choice - but I like all of their albums a lot. Their live shows were even better.

I tried to get tix to the MSG show as soon as the went on sale, no luck. And I'm not spending $1500 on tix from a scalper.

Guess they put 1,500 more tickets on sale this morning. Check ticketmaster.

Well, you can always stay in the comfort of your home on Saturday night in front of your computer and watch it for free. :D
God only knows how many DOUCHEBAGS you can avoid by getting your entertainment at home.

Somehow I only managed to catch LCDSS live 3 times. Once at the Empty Bottle in Spring of '04. Few years later at the Metro with Diplo's gf opening (iirc). And then they "opened" for Daft Punk at Lollapalooza a few years back. Would've loved to have seen them at one of these final shows. i've seen Murphy dj many times. I'm sure he'll still do that. He clears more cash djing than transporting a full band from town to town anyhow.

Enjoy a few songs, but all the "best band of the decade" critical wank surrounding this band is so tiresome.

I don't even know if they suck, because I don't exactly know what they are trying to do.
If they are trying to write, record, and perform "songs", then in my opinion,
I'd rather put my head in a dirty cat litter box and inhale than listen to their "art".
If they are trying to piss me off by their very existence, then "Welcome to The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, Animal Collective".
