When I was growing up my folks listened to nothing but classic country. Waylon, Willie, George Jones, Conway Twitty and even back farther with guys like Roy Acuff and Ernest Tubb. I absolutely HATED it then, but the older I get the more I enjoy it and often find myself listening along to the old school stuff.

What are some of your favorite classic country songs?

Also, is there anyone out there in today's country that is even close to the same sound and style of those old tunes?

One current guy that I enjoy is Jason Aldean. He seems to have somewhat of an old school feel to me. Songs like this one.

Dale Watson's 1996 album "Blessed or Damned" is one of the best albums I've ever heard. Fly Away is one of my favorite songs - it really has a classic sound to it.

Don't know how old school he was considered but I enjoy me some Marty Robbins.

Any country that is played on the radio is unlistenable adult contemporary crap. I wouldn't say I listen to a ton of it but I will rock out to some old or older sounding real country and my favs are: Dale Watson Hank III (only the country sounding stuff though and not the thrash metal) Shooter Jennings though (the more country and less southern rock sounding the better) Aaron Watson Old Crow Medicine Show As far as older stuff any George Jones song about drinking is good, johnny paycheck and Buck Owens.....basically if it has some thumping bass and a good steel I will liked it.

Jamey Johnson and ZBB are decent. Nothing beats Hank Jr IMO. Whiskey Bent is a good one. I also really like Tight Fittin Jeans by Conway. As well as the obvious ones by Hank, Waylon, and Willie.

There was alot of good stuff on the soundtrack to Crazy Heart that sounded like older country. Jeff Bridges did a fantastic job performing in that role. But yeah, new country blows. My wife has some friends that love "country music", and it's hell having to listen to some of this new garbage.

Although, I'm not sure how the guy who wrote "Crazy" could really be an "outlaw". Smoke a lot of weed, I guess.
