There is likely a thread on this somewhere but I am not going to dig through 20 pages of posts.
Anyway, I was watching Conan this morning on my DVR and Blink 182 was the musical guest.
I couldn't take my eyes off of Travis Barker wailing on his drumset and spinning his sticks
occassionally. He just abuses his drum set. Is it widely accepted that he is one of the best
in the business if not the best? ( I don't care if you think he is a douche in real life )

I'm pretty sure that Mike Portnoy, Chris Adler, Danney Carey, Thomas Lang, Dave Lombardo, and Dave Mackintosh, would rate higher among the drummer crowd.

Higher then Travis or my man Neil?

Shame he had to leave Dream Theater.

Yeah, I think the drummer crowd still holds Portnoy in higher regard than a Travis Barker type.
I think they also genuinely agree that Neil Peart is great as well...just not necessarily as talented as the guys that have followed in his footsteps.

IMO. Tommy Lee and Travis Barker are the same guy.

You'd probably like Jojo Mayer.

To answer your question, I wouldn't say he's THE best, but he's pretty well regarded in musician circles.
He's also got that whole "I almost died in a plane crash" thing going for him.

For the first 30 seconds or so, this kid plays the xylophone. About a minute in, he gets behind the drums, and trust me. He kills.
