I think we did this thread last year and it went over pretty well. I don't think there are any major
record releases the next few weeks so thought it was fair to put this little poll out there now before
the holidays. It was a pretty decent year for music so let's hear what you liked. For me it goes as
follows and since I can't limit myself to just 5 I'll include a few honorable mentions.

1. The Head and The Heart -- self titled
2. Bon Iver -- Bon Iver, Bon Iver
3. Fleet Foxes -- Helplessness Blues
4. My Morning Jacket -- Circuital
5. Amos Lee -- Mission Bell

Honorable Mentions

Adele -- 21
Cold War Kids -- Mine Is Yours
Foster The People -- Torches
Wild Flag -- self titled
Wilco -- The Whole Love
Radiohead -- The King of Limbs

Mystery Palace - Nervio (can be d/l for free on soundcloud)
Rob Kleiner and the Satanics - Self Titled (I freaking love these guys...my buddy Rob from Tub Ring.)
Crossess - Self Titled (Chino from Deftones singing. also free...somewhere.)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - I'm With You (Just a good rock record)
Incubus - If Not Now, When? (One of the surprises of 2011)
Between the Buried and Me - The Parrallax Hypersleep Dialogues. (It's ridiculous math metal. there's three songs and the album is 30 minutes long).

Honorable Mentions:
Foo Fighters - Wasting Light (also a good rock record)
Primus - Green Naugahyde (nice and weird like the old stuff)
Puscifer - Conditions of My Parole (Maynard from Tool!)
Mastodon - The Hunter (Need to digest this one more)
Radiohead - The King of Limbs (I listened a lot in early 2011 and in the summer...not much since)
Lupe Fiasco - Lasers (I liked it...kinda "dance club-ey" but, still cool)
Janes Addiction - The great escape artist. (they're back....)
Elbow - Build a Rocket Boys (sad British songs...their first album "asleep in the back" is brilliant. highly recommend these guys.)

I can't wait for the new lamb of god album. january 2012

Math metal?? Last time I heard someone mention that particular musical genre it was "American Fucking Heritage," live at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon in the Fireside Bowl on Fullerton, and I was already lit...

Good times.

anything that is in 13/8th i tend to describe as "math metal."
I'm sure Imu would label it "post-aggressive geometry alt-rock"

Anyone who uses the term math-metal is doing a poor job deflecting hipster accusations.

If it's not a reel or a jig, I'm already out of time...

It's hard

I only bought 5 albums this year (well after looking at ths thread 6) and only had 2 favorites... Despite the greatness that is Rocks in the Box, The King is Dead didn't do much for me. Pete Yorn dropped an early year dud after 5 straight great albums. And I'm still trying figure out what the fuck Matt & Kim is... and then there were 2.

I would nominate Angles by The Strokes for most disappointing album of the year. What a huge letdown after such a long hiatus.

Wow, really?
Two Kinds of happiness, games, and under cover of darkness, imo, rank as great as anything they ever did in the past.
