the receiver manual was not very helpful, so I thought maybe someone here might have an idea what could be going on

i have one of those pre-packaged Polk 5.1 surround setups that comes w/ the subwoofer, fairly old now. anyway, i replaced the front surround speakers with some JBL tower speakers I had. i have my TV, DVD player and turntable hooked up to the receiver.

the TV and DVD player are fine in surround mode, all speakers function correctly, sounds good.

but the turntable, I can only get to play in all speakers through mono mode. when i switch to stereo, only the right tower speaker plays. its not an issue with the speaker since it functions fine in other modes. i only really noticed because i was listening to a record & song where some background vocals i knew should be there were missing

it has to be an issue of how i have the receiver setup, but i can't figure why i would have only one speaker functioning in just one mode . everything in the speaker setup portion of the receiver (it has an on screen guide) seems to be set correctly.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the way the receiver is handling a recording that isn't 5.1, however that doesn't explain why you're losing an entire channel.

Send it back to Polk and tell them it's defective. This kind of stuff is a write off for them.

it's like 10 years old...funny thing though when i got it, the subwoofer was defective twice, and they replaced with no questions asked each time until I finally got a good one. no problems since then
