1. I Need To Know
2. Honey Bee
3. Louisiana Rain
4. Here Comes My Girl
5. Change The Locks

Everything else past there is good, but mostly interchangable. If anyone wants to check out a great Tom Petty album that was mostly under the radar, check out the soundtrack to the movie She's The One. Petty & The Heartbreakers did the entire soundtrack, and I think it's their best album. It's definitely worth a listen.

I'll take this list with a few moved around. Don't Come Around Here is one of my all time favorite songs. Loved the video!

Not sure how under the radar it is

She's the One was a pretty popular album and most people just consider it a Petty album.

Waiting was played at a nauseating clip when it came out.

You probably hate it now because people know about it.

I can't find that stones thread, but if talking heads is out for being in 70s I add traveling wilburies.

I'm a Bigfan of Petty. Always have been. I would consider all of his material good, but not great. I'm not trying to hipster-fy my Petty fandom, just recommending an album in his catalog that is mostly overlooked. Also, Waiting was not on the She's The One soundtrack.

1. Free Fallin'
2. Mary Jane's Last Dance
3. Learning To Fly
4. Runnin' Down A Dream
5. I Won't Back Down
6. Breakdown
7. The Waiting
8. Good to Be King

It's weird with Petty...I love the above stuff a ton...but then I abhor:
4. Refugee
5. I Need To Know
8. American Girl
9. Don't Come Around Here No More
11. Don't Do Me Like That
12. Even The Losers
13. Listen To Her Heart
14. Here Comes My Girl

I don't know why there's such a polar opposite for me on the same artist...his lead guitarist is a great slide guitar player, during the "Concert for George" where they had a Traveling Wilburys reunion, he played the heck out of "Handle Me With Care"

Petty is like two different guys. In the 90s he went all schmaltz and mainstream, whereas before he was more of a straight ahead 70s rocker.

This is a great song. I overlooked that on my list. I could easily rank this as Top 3 Petty songs for me.

I was just fucking around

I always associated Waiting with that movie. I swear it was on the radio all the time and in the trailers.

I hate when a song is used in a movie and then its not on the soundtrack.

I think the Stones kept both of their songs ("Ruby Tuesday" and "She Smiled Sweetly") off the OST for The Royal Tenenbaums. Not like those followed the climax of the movie and were quite important to any soundtrack experience. Another reason why that band's no good, if you ask me.

In the Name of the Father used U2's Pride in ads but it wasnt on the soundtrack.

The soundtrack is still kick ass (maybe the best ever) but annoying.

And there was a song called "In the Name of the Father" by BONO!! Just use that in the ads!

LOVE Tom Petty. Here's my Top 5 from a different thread. Would love to find a way to get Even The Losers into the Top 10.

Free Fallin' got my son hooked on Petty. I liked his newer stuff like Free Fallin', but the older hits were already firmly ingrained in my mind and soul.

And I do believe that this should get heavy, heavy consideration for some type of honorable mention:

Petty might be my all time favorite. Very glad to see Here Comes my Girl at the #1 spot. I love that song so much.

So you only like the video version of Into the Great Wide Open? Then I want to change my list so that I only refernce Learning to Fly off of the 1991 Bulls Championship video that came with a subscription to Sports Illustrated

"Runnin' Down a Dream" is literally the only Tom Petty song I have never liked.
