Though the album isn't due out til mid-January, I got ahold of it the other day. Very good stuff, what you'd expect after their last two albums. They used a little bit more fuzz in the guitars in parts, and some synthesizers in others, but didn't overdo it at all. If you liked either of the previous two records, this one will fit quite nicely along side it. |

I love the Shins. They put on a fantastic show the last time I saw them at the Congress Theater. Incidentally, that's a great venue to see a band like the Shins--it has a certain magisterial decrepitude that fits the Shins' sound quite well. The opening band, the Brunettes, were excellent as well. Looking forward to the new Shins release and hopefully a return tour date at the Congress. |

I'll see what I can do, but it had already proliferated quite a bit on the P2P program I use. |

Quote: I've got to admit, I don't know a whole lot about them. I bought their last album on a recommendation from Greg Kot, and enjoyed it. Is the new one in the same vein...or does it go in another direction?
Pretty much, yeah. As I said, they don't get too out into left field with experimenting with the sound that's worked for them, but they do throw a couple curveballs to keep it interesting. |
