Love the complete randomness of the music. Sounds like a junior high dance from the mid 90s.

'90s radio is a format whose time has come. Too bad it's come by way of Randy Michaels, so it's in the unique position of being half-assed by a whole ass. They said there'd be "none of the hip-hop or R&B." You can't do '90s without the hip-hop or R&B, which co-existed quite well with everything else. Boyz II Men! C'mon!

Awesome. Way better than q101 was the last 5 years or so

There has to be a station that goes Tone Loc, Lisa Loeb, STP

They went from Barenaked Ladies to Coolio to Natalie Imbruglia to Whitney Houston Saturday Night.

They just moved Pete McMurray over from the Loop to do mornings so that it's not voice-tracked 24/7. Improvement insofar as it's not more voice tracking, but Pete McMurray is one of the "great" Chicago radio also-rans of the last 10 or 12 years. He's the male Melissa Forman. Put her on.

If nothing else, the people behind the new Q101 have done something I didn't think was still possible. People are talking about FM radio. I heard someone talking about Q101 at a party, and I thought I finally got that time travel request back to 1996.

That's basically the Randy Michaels modus operandi: get people "talking" about the product, but don't ever bother investing in the product or producing anything of value. That's why all his stations flame out like they do (the "new" WGN, FM News, eventually Q87 and this new '90s iPod). Everyone was abuzz about Q101 flipping to news, and then as soon as they discovered that it was a hastily assembled, resource-bereft 780 for people with the intellectual curiosity of a pear, it fell to DFL in the Arbitrons and didn't even make it a year.

You were wrong, it was Van Halen followed by Zeppelin.

He was on weekdays too, think he came on at like 2AM. When I lifeguarded at the Y at 6AM I'd just stay up and listen while dicking around on AOL.

Heard this afternoon:

RHCP - "Under the Bridge"
Sugar Ray - "Fly"
Wallflowers - "One Headlight"
69 Boyz - "Tootsee Roll"
Shaggy - "Angel"
K-Ci & JoJo - "All My Life"
Jennifer Lopez - "Waiting for Tonight"
Aerosmith - "Don't Want to Miss a Thing"

Man, that is a thing. If they just improve their DJ presence and imaging from "non-existent" and "shitty" to "decent" and "not altogether retarded," they're really going to have a hit on their hands.

We changed the lyrics to "Don't want to miss a meal" in high school, which we would sing to one of our heavier buddies during lunch time.

Call me when they play Candlebox. Then I will tune in.

Listening more. The playlist is expanding nicely, picking up some of the rap, R&B, and dance that I feared they'd avoid. They need some sort of structure, though: maybe more dance stuff at night, more "alternative" (not the real kind, just what we referred to Third Eye Blind as) in middays, well-rounded in drive times. Some featured segments would be nice, too. This, of course, requires a program director and disc jockeys, which cost money, and then there's that stupid PPM-induced fear that the minute people hear sound that is not a song, they will change stations, so "on shuffle" is probably as good as it's gonna get here. It is, after all, Randy Michaels.

You know, they must've had to nuke their entire ad inventory when they flipped, because I hear maybe five spots an hour, and many of those are just PSAs. I'm not surprised that every contract would be null and void with a format change, but it's kind of nice to hear so few commercials. A friend commented that the whole thing feels impossibly self-indulgent, like the whole thing is being done as a birthday gift for a co-worker.

They've added Katy Perry and Taio Cruz to the playlist. It was fun while it lasted.

Everyone is Registering Their Disgust On The Internet over on their facebook page. I tell you, hell hath no fury like hundreds of twentysomething girls from Streamwood who want to hear "Sweet Dreams" by La Bouche at their cubicles. They're gonna regret this.

The breakdown is terrible

Its like

80% - TLC, Christina Aguilera, Katy Perry
10% Alternative Rock
10%- Rap

If it was an even 33.33333, it would be decent

THERE SHOULD BE ZERO PERCENT KATY PERRY

IF I WANTED TO HEAR FIVE KATY PERRY SONGS AN HOUR I'D LISTEN TO WXLC

Christ, I could program this station like damn. Grew up with B96 in its prime. Julian Jumpin' Perez!
