"The Heist" is my favorite album I've heard since the latest Fun album. Give it a try.

Note: If you are one of those guys who thinks music was only good before 1980 just go listen to the same Led Zeppelin songs you always do.

"Thrift Shop" is good unclean fun. How does the rest stack up to that track?

Also, please italicize longform works such as albums and set short works (read: songs) in quotation marks, kthx

While I don't think there are any other songs quite on that level, there are many others that are close. I also appreciated many of the messages behind the songs. I thought it was pretty cool for a guy that I had never heard of to be making social statements that will CLEARLY turn off a certain percentage of his audience.

Also, it sucks.

There is plenty of quality current music. This isn't it.

It never ceases to amaze when people think they can quantify art.

Half the shit you post in the Music thread would be dismissed as garbage by most people.

How can you have so little self awareness? You're too old for that shit.

I don't care about most people. I care about the people who listen to real music, as opposed to talking fast layered over 808's and FL Studios samples.

Call Macklemore art if you want. I won't argue it. Call throwing paint on a blank white wall art. I don't care.

But music is made with musical instruments.

Im not talking about genre vs genre. Im talking about you thinking that the music you listen to is "better" and being so sure of it. As if its provable or quantifiable.

Your statement about what constitutes music is flawed. The definition of a musical instrument is dynamic.

And, No I dont like Macklemore. Didnt know who he was til a friend said they heard a Wu Tang reference on B96

I haven't heard anything other than Thrift Shop, but isn't he basically The Streets without the British accent?

Some of it - yes, yes I certainly do.

Older stuff like The Beatles, Zeppelin, Billy Joel, STP, 311 ...newer stuff like Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, The Black Keys, The New Pornographers, Muse, The Strokes, Silversun Pickups, Jack's Mannequin....they are certainly better than what is considered mainstream and popular these days.

And find me a place where "most" people disagree with that.

With the more eclectic stuff I listen to...like mewithoutYou, glassjaw, La Dispute, Trophy Scars, Minus The Bear, Emarosa, The Zutons....I could see how people wouldn't like it. It doesn't make it bad though.

Fuck you you little loser! You had every chance to avoid it, you have done this shit for a long time and even your best friends here, know what a fucking idiot you are, now we will talk about it in the open!

Hey, I just heard "Same Love." I'm a sucker for sparse piano lines and I liked what I heard.

you know, at first i was tickled that some white guy named "macklemore" was having his song in programming-level-rotation on massmedia level. you know, as a wannabe named "sinicalypse" there are far worse things that could happen. and at first yeah that beat and he's competent with his raps a couple of vintage rap references and etc etc, but like, as time went on i just kind of graduated to a level of "fuck that hipster burrito" cuz like, man, to say he is anything but a smug hipster is a gross misnomer.

Image

fuck this guy. pop rap music keeping the black man down ignorant and lil wayne / drake / cesspool of materialism then they push this arthouse asshole to make white people look better? scarface called it. if god's a cool guy i'd endeavor just to like, encounter shithead here once.... just once.... and have that end of rocky 3 moment with rocky and apollo creed with no crowd no audience and just freestyle.... to let him know that no matter how many bank accounts he has with $$$ in them and how many twitter followers and all that.... just like, you know, let him know that no matter what he doesn't have "it" because a complete thorough and absolute nobody is beyond him at the craft that made him rich.

the gods of rap.... music... media... whatever. whoever's in charge of that damn thrift song being played every 15-30 minutes between all of the pop stations in chicago. at first it was alright, but when you keep on earing it incessantly wherever you go it's like JESUS CHRIST MAKE IT STOP ALREADY. i think this song might have gotten in the ballpark of how hard "hey ya" was pushed back in the early-mid 00s, tho i'm not making any guarantees on that.
