Without a doubt in my mind it will be better than Kanye's album. I am positive Kanye is mentally ill and needs help.

Do you think Nas is mentally ill?

Hopeless romantic but not mentally ill. He'll probably be married again this year.

That's a thin line.

It will probably sell more, becuase that's what Jay is all about. Sales.

Kanye's album will probably be better though.

Dark Fantasy is miles better than Blueprint 3 for example

Mentally ill people can make great music.

He's been thinking a lot. It's about an 8 on a scale of 10. Born Sinner is still the best album of the year.
8)

He went platinum before his release date.

I bet this album will have amazing songs about how Jay-Z owns (less than one percent of) the Brooklyn Nets, is married to Beyonce, has a number of impressive executive titles, has a well-diversified investment portfolio, and is able to spend large amounts of money on recreation and leisure. Art like this should be displayed next to the Mona Lisa.

You're wrong. It's like Black Album and Blueprint 3 had a baby.

This would be a nice change of pace for him. I believe his material success is an underexplored theme in Jay-Z's music.

He had to relinquish his ownership stake due to his newly formed sports agency, Roc Nation Sports.

He hasn't found a buyer.

You cut out the middle man. They say the deal was worth $20M to him. Not bad before your album drops. I think this type of deal only works for stars. At last at that number. Doesn't hurt when the company had a billion dollar budget.

as it was touched on earlier in the thread... do you think jay-z still has a song left in his heart? or is this strictly about the paper as it's been said "he's gone platinum before the album even got out" and now we're talking victory figures and all that.... i mean, honestly, i still have yet to hear it (password protected rar? wtf) but ummmm, yeah, i haven't heard any praise for the lyrics/songs, just his financial werewithol.

He does but most people wouldn't like a whole album of him talking about his wife and child. I think he let's people in on this album more than any album since Black Album. You get a glimpse of who he really is. Surprisingly it appears he is very unsure of himself. You wouldn't expect that considering most of his lyrics.

I like it

Its pretty much every Jay Z album combined

Its heavy on the I'm rich stuff but there's some depth on some tracks

I get what you're saying. I said Black Album and Blueprint 3 had a baby because it's more mature than some of his earlier stuff and he doesn't degrade women. This is the first album since the Black Album that it felt like he was allowing you to see the man behind the mask. I know he's had tracks like Beach Chair and the track he had with Kanye about his unborn son but those are rare. Really good but not great. Seems rushed.

Quote:
Jay-Z fans who downloaded his new album via a special app on Samsung smartphones got more than they expected: software that invades their privacy.

Digital rights advocates say that Samsung embedded downloads of “Magna Carta ... Holy Grail,” the 12th studio album by Jay-Z, with software that collects information such as the user’s phone number, commonly dialed numbers, and email, social media and GPS data, among other encroachments. The app also allows only streaming not downloading of tracks. The album receives its conventional release today

http://www.washingtonpost.com/entertain ... ml?hpid=z4

Quote:
When an artist self-identifies as a corporate entity, are we still Jay-Z fans? Or are we Jay-Z customers?

The answer to that late-capitalist riddle arrives with the rap icon’s insidious new album, “Magna Carta . . . Holy Grail” — which first appeared last week as a data collection exercise disguised as a smartphone app capable of delivering a bundle of mediocre rap songs to your mobile device.

Here’s how it worked: Samsung purchased a million copies of “Magna Carta” in advance, then, via the app, made the album available to subscribers five days before its widespread release. In exchange, users were asked to share access to their social media accounts, their phone calls, their GPS location and more. If the medium is the message, we finally had an answer to that fan-or-customer question.

And now who would want to be either? Throughout “Magna Carta,” the 43-year-old pretends he’s a threat to a system he’s so eagerly become a part of, as if his life as a champion capitalist is some perpetually escalating act of subversion. Hooray? Rooting for this man in 2013 is like rooting for Pfizer. Or PepsiCo. Or PRISM.

oh snap, i forgot to tell you lot that jigga (or hov, if you will) was on twitter yesterday holding court with his subjects.... he must have spent a proper ~3-4 hours just answering questions posed to @s_c_ (using the #MCHG hash helped) --- he even claimed that in lieu of interviews for his #MCHG mastepiece people should just check his twitter timeline.

what would you lot have asked him if you had a chance to speak to the one and the only "eight figga [n-word]a named jigga" ?? my favorite one was when someone asked him how he prevented his album from leaking and he responded "illuminati... hahah #mylaugh"

also, did anyone catch that nytimes piece called "Jay-Z is watching and he knows your friends" ?? >> http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/05/arts/ ... .html?_r=0
