Well, the Grammy announcements come out tonight, and as usual there aren't a lot of artists
that will be nominated that I spent much time listening to. Here is your chance to toss some
bouquets to some artists you thought put out some solid work this year and maybe turn someone
else on to an album they aren't familiar with. Feel free to list honorable mentions if you feel it is
warranted and didn't make your top 5.

The Head and The Heart -- Let's Be Still
Jim James -- Regions of Light and Sound of God
Local Natives -- Hummingbird
City and Colour -- The Hurry and The Harm
The Avett Brothers -- Magpie and the Dandelion

Pearl Jam just misses the cut. It was solid but not one of my favorites this year.

Actually my most enjoyable album of the year was Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series #10 Another Self Portrait (1969-71).
I won't count it since the music is 40 plus years old. Some great unheard cuts and arrangements. They did a really
great job with this double disc.

(Edit: Good Kid Maad City came out in Oct of 12 but really had a lot of juice in 2013 and would be my number 2)

i really regret not going to her show at the Vic a few months back- it was sold out but Stub hub had tickets for 50 or 60 and i wanted to, but it was on a Monday night so i backed out

i know she does Let's Go Crazy in her set

there was a 2 or 3 week period where i played the album pretty much every day. it's like crack

Oh, FUCK the Head and the Heart. I finally hit Campfire Bullshit Critical Mass on that band. At least "Ho Hey" has a hook.

Weak year for me after 2012, which had a lot of stuff I really liked. Bad year for albums, good year for songs.

Camera Obscura - Desire Lines
Phil Angotti - Life and Rhymes
Lorde - Pure Heroine
Minor Alps - Get There
Low - The Invisible Way

New stuff from Arcade Fire, My Bloody Valentine, Daft Punk, Pearl Jam, and David Bowie all disappointed me.

So hey, if you'd like to recommend anything between now and the 31st, feel free to help me out here!

EDIT: oooh, Bagels, tell me of the new Tim Hecker. I loved Ravedeath 1972.

i like that Camera Obscura album, just listened to it for the 1st time yesterday
the Low is good too...underrated band

the Tim Hecker is very good, if that's your sort of thing....very experimental, abstract, no structure really...but it's very beautiful
he's playing at Lincoln Hall in January , probably going to go

i think you did

i really like it, its just the sort of thing you have to be in the right mood to listen to...not something i'd pop in while cruising down the highway on a 80 degree summer day

I really want to find out that the rest of the Tired Pony album is as good as "All Things All at Once," but I suspect it won't be. I mean, at the end of the day, it's just the guy from Snow Patrol. Hell, the name even sounds like Coldplay!

It's pretty much impossible to not know at least one song by Lorde.

I'd say Bagels is right up there. He turned me on to Chris Cohen. Thanks, duder.

I have so much 2013 music that I've yet to give a proper listen.

2012:

I've heard good things about that Lumineers album. Two people said it'd be up my alley. So far:

The Mountain Goats - Transcendental Youth
John K. Samson - Provincial
Tindersticks - The Something Rain
Regina Spektor - What We Saw from the Cheap Seats
The Magnetic Fields - Love at the Bottom of the Ocean

What's telling about this list is that these are all artists I've been pretty committed to for some time. No one new making the list. My only new album by a new artist is Tramp by Sharon Van Etten, and while I love "Serpents" and the fact that the cover is a direct homage to John Cale's Fear, I'm not all that taken with the rest of it.

Haha, how far I've come on the Lumineers. If only I knew what I was getting into.

Pretty bummed there was no Mountain Goats, Wilco, Tindersticks, or Weakerthans this year. If they all come out with new stuff for 2014, it could be very interesting.

Lucky is the word that comes to mind.

The song itself isn't bad, but that chick's voice is irritating beyond belief.

 Never heard quite that reaction about what is a fairly innocuous band. I thought it was a nice
sophomore effort from them. The least favorite track on the album for me is "Shake" that got all the
radio play. I knew you weren't a fan of that one from a previous post. Oh well.

Yeah, I only mentioned it as a nod to your CSFMB music hipster status. I still need to hear Cronin's previous efforts.
