I went to the first Bonnaroo in 2002. It was very hot and dry. I was exhausted when it was finished.

Wow....

Owning the top spots at Bonnaroo 2014 will be Kanye West, Sir Elton John, Jack White, Lionel Richie, Vampire Weekend, The Avett Brothers, Phoenix, Skrillex, Arctic Monkeys, and Frank Ocean.
The full lineup for Bonnaroo Music & Arts festival was announced tonight in an online simulcast super party called B.L.A.M. (Bonnaroo Lineup Announcement Megathon) hosted by comedians Hannibal Buress and Taran Killam. Of note, this will be the first time Kanye West has played Bonnaroo since his infamous 2008 performance that started eight hours behind schedule.
Bonnaroo will also feature performances from The Flaming Lips, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Kaskade, Damon Albarn, Neutral Milk Hotel, Wiz Khalifa, Disclosure, Cut Copy, The Head and the Heart, Zedd, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Chromeo, Broken Bells, Tedeschi Trucks Band, James Blake, Bobby Womack, Umphrey’s McGee, Ice Cube, Ben Howard.
The festival will place from June 12 – June 15 in Manchester, Tennessee at Great Stage Park. Tickets will be available on the Bonnaroo website this Saturday, Feb 22 at Noon EST.
Known for its “Superjams” this year should be interesting. The three Superjams for 2014 will be with Skrillex & Friends, The Bluegrass Situation Superjam hosted by Ed Helms, as well as another as-yet announced Superjam.

i actually think it's fairly weak

Kanye is a get, sure
As is Elton

Damon Albarn is at least fairly unique, i don't think he's playing much elsewhere

also, wasn't this fest basically a hippie/jam band fest at one point ?

Yes. The Electric Forest Festival in Rothbury is now the best one the last few years.

I would enjoy seeing him, sure, but I don't think he really qualifies as a 'get', pretty sure you can see him at some Casino a few times a year if you really wanted to

i mean of course there are countless bands there i would enjoy. but like pretty much any fest it comes down to the environment...you're basically going there to drop acid and smoke tons of weed

i thought it was pretty cool that someone put together a little interactive map thingie and called it "localachella" or something, basically 90% of the bands playing there are also playing at clubs in the area surrounding it. that being the case, the main reason for going to the fest basically is the fest itself

Definitely not as great as the past couple years but SCI is as good a festival band as there is.

There are quite a few of my favorites there but I don't really think I would enjoy the festival atmosphere
that much. I'll continue to try to catch some of them as they roll through the area.

Right.
Like Kanye or Elton John- ok, there is no way you're ever seeing them in a club. it's gonna be the United Center or some other giant arena. so seeing that type of an artist at a giant fest at least makes sense to me

but a lot of these smaller bands, bands you could see at Metro or Lincoln Hall....why would you want to see them amongst a crowd of half a million when you can see them in a more intimate space

Yeah, that is my thought. The kind of music I enjoy lends itself to a quieter, intimate space with decent acoustics.
Quick question for you Bagels.... have you ever purchased tickets direct from a band prior to a presale? I did that
for a show coming up in April and was hoping that because of this I scored some tickets really close to the stage.
There is no seating assignment and I have to pick tickets up at will call the day of the show.

yeah i think so

i think the contracts most venues have with the various ticket agencies makes doing that nearly impossible...it would have to be basically a DIY type venue

which is i think the major problem Pearl Jam ran into when they tried to fight TM, there just aren't a whole lot of venues, especially larger ones, that don't have those strong corporate ties

Post subject:  Re: Bonnaroo 2014

Pearl Jam only does that for their fan club members.

For certain shows, sometimes they will hold an online raffle for the chance to buy general public tickets, but those are usually very limited.

Don't really know. I got an e-mail from the band and was directed to a company going by the name
GroundCtrl in which the tix were purchased. I was skeptical initally but received a confirmation direct
from the band website. Guess I will find out in 6 weeks. Allowed me to buy a day before the presale
and two days before the initial public release of tickets.
