That reminds me of John Anderson's Chicken Truck. Country music was pretty much dying by the early 80s. It had one last gasp of breath with the neotraditional revival led by George Strait, Randy Travis, Dwight Yoakam, John Anderson and others. That lasted a couple of years before all the rednecks switched to angry talk radio leaving country stations to women. Seminole Wind, Anderson's biggest hit (I think): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4Eq428U2vU |

We'll get to Dolly later, but I mentioned Dwight Yoakam before. He earned his chops in Southern California and, of course, was heavily influenced there by Merle Haggard. "Fast as You" was his last big hit, in 1993. This song got me into country music as pop music was then dominated by some really bad psuedo-urban dreck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPwhRTHJs38 |

Dolly Parton. She was too sweet/sappy for me, but she was a HUGE star in the early 70s. My favorite of hers is Coat of Many Colors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7I_9MMcWvk |

Yoakam's Guitars, Cadillacs, a rip-roaring throwback to the 1960s, hit #1 in 1986. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DkcQ09h2Vo |

Patsy Cline ... all-time voice for a broad, especially a white one. Jerry Reed on the ol' gee-tar ain't too bad either. Hank Snow if you want to really walk it back some years. Bagels wrote: go piss up a rope You forgot the "and chew on the wet end" part, ya dope. |
