That reminds me of John Anderson's Chicken Truck. Country music was pretty much dying by the early 80s. It had one last gasp of breath with the neotraditional revival led by George Strait, Randy Travis, Dwight Yoakam, John Anderson and others. That lasted a couple of years before all the rednecks switched to angry talk radio leaving country stations to women.

Seminole Wind, Anderson's biggest hit (I think): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4Eq428U2vU

We'll get to Dolly later, but I mentioned Dwight Yoakam before. He earned his chops in Southern California and, of course, was heavily influenced there by Merle Haggard. "Fast as You" was his last big hit, in 1993. This song got me into country music as pop music was then dominated by some really bad psuedo-urban dreck.

Are we really calling Dwight Yoakam a "Country Classic"?

Dolly Parton. She was too sweet/sappy for me, but she was a HUGE star in the early 70s. My favorite of hers is Coat of Many Colors:

Yoakam's Guitars, Cadillacs, a rip-roaring throwback to the 1960s, hit #1 in 1986.

Loretta Lynn was great. Modern women could learn a thing or two from her. Especially how to do their hair right.

They found Marilyn Monroe in bed
And when the coroner pronounced her dead
It was the saddest thing he ever did
I've been thinkin' 'bout it since I was a kid

When those idiots killed Sharon Tate
That was a really hot babe
They should've taken Lily Tomlin instead
Please don't take Dolly Parton yet

I hate when pretty ladies die
It's never gonna seem right
Don't let 'em turn out the light
It brings a tear to my eye
I really hate when pretty ladies die

When Princess Diana died
You know it really tore me up inside
And when I heard the driver survived
It wasn't who I wanted alive

When I heard Selena got shot dead
It felt like I got kicked in the head
The should've taken Sandra Bernhard instead
Please don't take Lindsay Lohan yet

I hate when pretty ladies die
It's never gonna seem right
Don't let 'em turn out the light
It brings a tear to my eye
I really hate when pretty ladies die

They'll never run their fingers through my hair
They'll never share my bed
It's not fair
Maybe I'll blame God

I hate when pretty ladies die
It's never gonna seem right
Don't let 'em turn out the light
It brings a tear to my eye
I really hate when pretty ladies die

I hate when pretty ladies die
I hate when pretty ladies die

Patsy Cline ... all-time voice for a broad, especially a white one.

Jerry Reed on the ol' gee-tar ain't too bad either.

Hank Snow if you want to really walk it back some years.
