I liked the songs that I've heard on the radio, and thought she was good on SNL.

1) Female David Byrne, right?

2) Would

Saw her SNL performance and guess I didn't really get it. She has talent but didn't really dig the songs
she played. Pretty sure Spanky is currently president of her fan club.

I know this form a professional photo shoot, but she's quite cute. She seems a little weird so she might have a full-on bush, Hanklin.

Yeah, I mean in this day and age, you take bush where you can get it. That isnt a bad pic.

She's awesome. Her new album is an album of the year contender. Pretty sure she's dating Carrie Brownstein.

Agree with all of this - and if she's not dating Brownstein, they are awfully good friends. The album is great.

I get the Byrne comparison (probably because they worked together), but she's more like female Prince in a lot of ways.

Absolutely would. She's cute in person. Really, really skinny though.

Would you recommend her earlier releases like Marry Me or Actor?

She seemed a little Byrne-y to me before (probably because they worked together, like you said), but seeing her on SNL really made me think of the comparison.

To be fair I should give the album a spin, but the performance was just strange. The choreography on the first
number was quite odd.

I don't have "Actor" (although I guess I probably should. Maybe I'll download it tonight  (
I have "Strange Mercy" and it's also a very good album.

Her current album is fantastic.

I don't have Marry Me yet, but yes, Actor and Strange Mercy are worth getting, as is Love This Giant with David Byrne. She's assumed more of his sound since working with him. There's some Prince in there, too. "Digital Witness" is basically a Prince song.

I'd wager that if you didn't get Bjork or PJ Harvey, you probably won't get St. Vincent, either.

Well, no, I'm just saying that if you don't like one, you probably won't like the other.

Does anyone else like Electrelane? I'm listening to The Power Out this morning as I do some beyond-tedious page layout work. Very good album, reminds me of Stereolab a lot.

I don't really get that. PJ Harvey can rock. St. Vincent is like a soundtrack for a Wes Anderson movie.

I don't know, I think PJ Harvey at her best (Is This Desire? and Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea) is more about post-rock noodling and atmospherics than rawking.

I would say Rid of Me is her best.

Oh, I don't have that one. I'll add it to the list.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkTBrqU7Mas I've listened to this Electrelane track like three times in a row now. It's so good.

EDIT: oh this is a Steve Albini production, nice

you know, i had to look up the lineup for primavera upon seeing this here and i saw that julian cope was listed on the festival in a pretty big font. that made me think of this fun song by his old a&r bill drummond (later of the KLF) who i don't think was technically wrong about julian when he made >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuDmjZfa_Z0

hey dude, if you ever come out to a CSFMB function that i'm at i am indebted to you to the tune of one beer for this comment. that made my fucking day.

i just want one conversation with this chick so she can look into my eyes and realize taht she's in the kiddie end of the pool with little floaters on and rah rah rah. her more recent interviews with the blond hair and stuff..... ugh. she's had no resistance in life for far too long and it really shows because without that fundamental adversity there to challenge her to get outside of herself and improve the music in a non-selfish way.... well, don't get me wrong that some of my favorite music on the planet is very selfish (made for the person who made it) and etc.... but yeah. i wanna like her, i wish i could cuz yeah the competitive dude in me would wanna fuck her something fierce.... but if only to let her know that i'll spot her the success and acclaim and all that just as long as she knows she never had a chance over here.
