When was the last time you done it? With the way we listen to music now it seems like a lost thing.
I do it all the time, last weekend I did it with the early Rush stuff because was in the mood and was reminded why I love them .

Other acts I do this with regularly,
Bob Mould
Boston
Prince
Van Halen
Queen
Sinatra
Indigo Girls
Jimmy Buffett
Does not include compilations or Classical.

All albums. Think of it as a lineup.

1 gets you on base
2 moves the runner along
3 doubles off the wall
4 knocks it out of the park
5 consistently cleans up the scraps
6 is deeply flawed but recognizably talented with the capability of bringing it home
7 is experimental i.e., a recent call-up; and/or a song the bassist wrote
8 is mostly shit
9 is shit

That works with U2 albums but doesn't account for anyone who ever put a great song at the end.

The one that comes to me automatically without going through it song by song in my head is "Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols." Then maybe Clash - "Give em Enough Rope," Misfits - "Legacy of Brutality." A lot of Punk albums are conducive to listening straight through. First Black Sabbath maybe. No Beatles or Zeppelin. Only "Beggars" and "Let It Bleed" from the Stones.

It's bite sized helpings and that's partially due to the method of delivery. With a vinyl you had to sort of listen to the whole thing, a CD was different but still physical media. With streaming and on demand services you can pick and choose whatever you want, artists can also output single songs as well whenever they want.

Is what it is.

Yeah, but the method of delivery and the reception of the information has altered the art form radically. An album is a complete work. A CD is a collection of songs. And there is a huge difference. If an artist truly cared about the order of the songs or the way the music is consumed, he could make the CD a single track. But most people like money more than they respect their own artistic vision.

I'm sure you can look around online and find long discussions and arguments about the proper order of the songs on Big Star's Third (Sister Lovers). Disagreement over it may have had something to do with the way the record was released.

If you don't listen to Revolver all the way through there is no help for you.

Most people listen to Floyd listen all the way through since they are unable to stand up and walk across the room to change it.

I consume pretty much all my music in an album start-to-finish format...I can't even remember the last time I bought a single track or two from iTunes...

That reminds me, I have to listen to those podcasts.
Adam Scott Aukerman = Win.
I listened to the first one, but forgot about it.

Oh, just that a lot of U2 albums are really front-loaded: Boy, The Unforgettable Fire, The Joshua Tree, All That You Can't Leave Behind,

I was thinking more of the Indian Summer Sky/Elvis/MLK ambient noodling that closes it out, which, though it isn't bad (and nor is "Bad"), can't compare to the first half of the album.

I would add Sgt Pepper, the White Album and Abbey Road (side 2 in old time speak is still my all-time best) to the list.
