Had this drunken conversation with boyd a few weeks ago. What are your perfect album nominations? I mean albums that were just perfect, start to finish, well written, perfectly produced, literal works of art... I don't mean very Damn good albums... I mean perfect ones. A few I'd nominated... Tommy Operation Mind crime Dark Side of the Moon Wish You Were Here Hysteria Thoughts? |

Brian Eno - Another Green World Radiohead - Kid A The Afghan Whigs - Black Love The Mountain Goats - Tallahassee David Bowie - Low Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children Camper Van Beethoven - Key Lime Pie Tom Waits - Rain Dogs The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead Is this too many perfect albums? Eh, no matter, you called a Def Leppard album a "perfect work of art" |

Hysteria might be one of the most well produced albums of my lifetime. I thought it was fantastic. |

I remember boyd nominating London Calling. That's a good one too. It might even pass the Curious Hair Weirdness Test. |

Yeah, dude, London Calling is oooooooouuuuut there. But no, seriously, it's too bloated to be perfect. |

If Master of Puppets isn't perfect than it's damn close. And shit, I've had a few so I don't feel bad saying I'd rather put stylus to vinyl on Meddle than Darkside of the Moon. Still solid production but it feels less bloated to me, like a perfect distillation of Floyd before the band become a war between Waters and Gilmore with the other guys standing in another room somewhere and feed gruel from under the door. |

Puppets is a great nomination. Fucking loved that one. Was like huge for me in high school. |

I certainly like the Appetite and Compton nominations. I guess Thriller belongs there too. Quincy was the shit. |

Appetite for Destruction is the first one that comes to my mind. It was as perfect as perfect could be and remains one of the albums I continue to listen to probably more than any other. |

While there are many others in the conversation for me, it doesn't get much better than Physical Graffiti. Maybe it's because my older brother bought it for me as a Xmas present in 1978. Nostalgia, perhaps? Well, in any event, it's just a damn good album. If you think otherwise. I'm relatively sure you're a commie. |

They're great records, but if they had been edited down to single albums, they'd be unbelievable. But as I'm typing this, I'm realizing that's a tough thing to say, too. Part of the charm of something like Exile is how sprawling it is. |
