You never looked forward to an album more than usual?

That's pretty weird

Post subject:  Re: Albums you most anticipated (Couldnt wait for them)

Seven years ago last Friday, I was really hyped about the release of In Rainbows because it was my first new release as a Radiohead fan (got into them in 2004, I missed HTTT) and because the pay-what-you-want model was such a big deal. Getting my download and listening to it together with the rest of the Radiohead-liking world was about as special a communal experience as you're going to get with the internet. Unfortunately, I wound up being very disappointed with most of the album, except for "All I Need" and "Reckoner," and even then I pegged "All I Need" as a ripoff of Boards of Canada's "Roygbiv" on the first listen. I knew "Arpeggi" and "Videotape" from bootlegs, and hated the way they came out in the studio: the former stopped being an ethereal ballad, and the latter stopped being a full-band song. Years later, I've come to terms with it a little better, but I still think it the hype was way bigger than the album. Still, it was what we call A Thing.

Wow.

I should shame you by saying I was a fan in 96

JK, I started my obsessions with U2 and Wu Tang in 1993 and 2004 respectively

Serious. Never once cared.

I would say the only time I even looked into when a new album was coming out by a group was "TOO MUCH JOY"

But in the spiriti of your post Mr RPB, let me introduce you to a song by TOO MUCH JOY....called "Thats a Lie"....Please listen to the very last lyrics...

I get excited about certain artists releases. I think the only time I ever bought an album at midnight
was the Vs. album by Pearl Jam. It was either that or Vitalogy. Anyway I am looking forward to
the new Basement Tapes Complete 6 disc compilation coming out November 4th. I'm probably
looking forward to that as much as I have anything the last 5-10 years.

One of mine too! I love it when we find common ground.

A couple of friends and I stood in line at midnight for Metallica's Black Album.
I was mostly along for the ride, but I can't lie and say that album doesn't rule.
My brother did the Achtung Baby midnight buy. I was still in school in 1991, but he
graduated in 90, and I remember waking up to ZOO Station at around 1:30 in the morning,
thinking to myself "what the fuck is going on?". He showed my the CD cover. I said "this is U2???"
It was awesome.
:D

It's a song that I wish remastered would have been better or the live version would have had a great start, but neither, still...long time Clash guy.

Black gets hated on by all the purists, I can't deny I was slightly let down at the time. It was tough going from Justice to that. Anyway after my initial butthurt healed it was a very well produced and written album that was perfect for an arena tour.

Steely Dan: Two Against Nature (2000) ... first album they'd released since 1980's Gaucho ... it won Album of the Year btw ... delightful irony juxtaposed w/ one of their bigger charts Hey Nineteen.

Miles Davis: Kind of Blue (1959, 1992) ... the re-release obviously ... the vinyl had been released w/ the songs being the wrong pitch ... the '92 release fixed it ... in some ways a small thing, but also concurrently a huge thing to finally have it sound 'correct' after more than 3 decades. One of the best albums ever made by anyone of any stripe, period.

Sting: Ten Summoner's Tales (1993) ... at the time the only track I wasn't a fan of was the 2nd one ... since then, though, it sunk in that it was really the best track far and away ... pretty much the last time I was fervently interested in anything new from him ... you can keepMercury Falling and everything after it.

Huey Lewis & the News: Small World (1988) ... yeah, well, you can't win them all.

Living Colour: Time's Up (1990) ... The blacks even took the devil white man's metal music away from him and made it better  ... more polished and accessible than their debut but still great ... imho when Van Halen was deciding to implode these last few years they should've given Corey Glover a chance though, to be fair, I wasn't at all against Gary Cherone at the time.

Paul McCartney: Unplugged (1991) ... nobody gave a damn about that show until Sir Paul showed up and did it properly ... Eric Clapton & Nirvana should send him at least a small 'thank you' card for deigning to appear on MTV  .

Guns 'n' Roses: Use Your Illusion I & II (1991): This pretty much dominated music talk for the better part of a year until Nirvana took shit over ... you probably had to be there to thoroughly enjoy the shift in popular tastes ... forever and ever all you heard was 'here comes this album by GnR' - and rightfully so - then by early '92 nobody cared about them or the Bob Guccione, Jr. mention anymore (okay, not really, but very generally it's true).

The Eagles: Hell Freezes Over (1994) ... you either understand why or you're a music dullard that probably also doesn't understand why I said Kind of Blue is so important.

I don't know if he'll ever do one again. I'm not sure there's enough reason for him to anymore. He's raking in the cash from Beats.
