We are watching a thing on Genesis and I can't really think of others. Sting maybe? |

Idk, he had success, maybe they didn't. Band usually fail but don't the ones that left kinda fail too? |

Not really fair. Genesis became an entirely different band. What had been edgy & a bit weird, turned really commercial. Oddly, so did Peter Gabriel. |

I hate Peter Gabriel. I think he is awful. That's why I'm asking. |

I personally prefer Genesis post-Gabriel. Chicago got better live, but their best studio material was with Cetera. See this thread: http://ask.metafilter.com/152682/Bands- ... inger-left |

One could argue that the Impressions became a better band for the times with the departure of Jerry Butler, and then a different band again with the departure of Curtis Mayfield. A lot of metalheads will say that Black Sabbath was better with Ronnie James Dio than Ozzy. No one will ever say that about Van Halen. |

No one will ever say that about Van Halen. Agreed and agreed. I just didn't think Spaulding would know the Impressions. |

I'll go with AC/DC as well. Sammy was a better singer for VH, but VH was a better band with DLR. Then again, Ed wrote all of the music regardless, so... |

The people writing AC/DC are insane. Bon Scott >>>>>>>>>>> Brian Johnson. It's not even close. Also, Van Halen but I mean Gary Cherone Van Halen > Hagar Van Halen. |

Bon Scott > Brian Johnson but he was a great replacement. Cant go wrong with either guy imo Fleetwood Mac blew up with Buckingham Nicks Phil Collins > Peter Gabriel |

Pittmike - yes, I know the original reference was for Perry coming on board. But Pineda is absolutely outstanding, and has a tearjerker story to go with it. Perry just seems to come across as having a jerk story. |

Actually, I thought I had typed something indicating a before and after status for Journey ... apparently I did not or I deleted it or I need to start drinking to figure out which delusions are real. I also was going to write asterisked notes for AC-DC and The Doobies wherein there were strengths in the before and after products each, but then I figured I'd go with brevity for a change. I never choose right. |
