Recorded it a few weeks ago. Watched it for the first time shortly thereafter. As awesome as I expected.

Sorry don't want to rain on your parade of awesomeness. Just never got The Band or any of their Rolling Stone blessed brethren of gods of rock and roll for that matter.

It's worth watching for Van Morrison's coked up dancing alone.

Yes. Elvis karate kicks but he couldn't get his foot higher than about mid-thigh.

How old are you? I know I never had a chance considering it was filmed four years before I was born.

That's hardly relevant. I loved the original Jazz Singer.

Shit.

Sorry, Nas.

Did they ever give you a reason? It was rated PG.

The directors cut actually has Scorcese following through with the butt fucking of Robbie Robertson that his camera only hints at during the concert .

Means that Scorcese was figuratively sucking Robbie Robertsons cock the whole film. Couldn't keep the camera off of him. His man crush is bigger than the one I have on big fan for Christ sakes.

I understand and totally agree with your opinion.
I am a huge Band fan but have grown to totally hate Robbie Robertson.
The choice of guest artists to appear on The Last Waltz is an abomination.
I think it is the most overrated concert movie ever filmed, to be honest.
I feel so sorry for Levon Helm. He looks embarrassed to be a part of the whole thing.
Have you ever read Levon's book? What a damned shame.

I read it, it's great. I think Levon's hatred for Robertson kind of blinds him though. Robertson's line was always that the rest of them were too drug-addled and obsessed with guns and knives to write songs. And some of Levon's stuff about the Last Waltz (Neil Diamond? What the fuck) is priceless but then he also says that some of their performances were the best of their careers. And Levon gets an awful lot of screen time too, though not as much.

Im not a huge fan of the group so Ive never really gotten into the Robbie/ Levon feud thing but even as a casual observer you could tell that Scorsece was looking at Robertson like he was Kate fucking Upton. I actually enjoyed the film. It was pretty much my first exposure to The Band and their music. It Makes No Difference is one of my favorite all time songs and Danko fucking kills it in the film. I guess when groups break up. someone has to be the son of a bitch and looks like thats Robersons cross to bear but wasn't he also the chief songwriter? Not saying who is right and who is wrong but wasn't he mostly responsible for the success they had?

Interesting. Did Robbie Robertson ever write a book?
I saw Levon at Ravinia just before he died.
It was phenomenal. John Hiatt was the opening act.
After intermission, Hiatt came out from backstage and found an empty seat right next to my wife.
He watched the whole Levon performance before joining him on stage for the encore.
I don't ever remember seeing an opening act watch the main performer like Hiatt did.
I think it really says something about Levon's talents.

I've not read Levon's book but have read various accounts of what went on with these guys as they are one of my favorites with Dylan.
I was always under the impression that Levon was the real leader of The Band although Robertson was an incredible artist in his own
right. I thought that a lot of the songs were written collectively but in the end Robertson put his name as the songwriter thus getting
the sole credit. I know that some of the guys were battling demons which ultimately took the talented Richard Manuel who hung
himself. At the time of his suicide he was reportedly drinking 6 bottles of Grand Marnier a day. Yowzers. I believe the truth, as it usually
does, falls somewhere in the middle.

I had the chance to see Rick Danko play at the Cubby Bear.
I bailed on the opportunity at the last minute.
Rick died a few days later.
One of my biggest regrets and it taught me a great life lesson.
