Did he shave that awful beard yet?

I bought two of his CD's. The first had that song "Just my imagination" and I liked it. His 2nd CD that was released a few years later ranks as maybe the worst CD I ever listened to.

that link is actually a slowed down version. i guess they do that to avoid piracy detection or something. not sure how to speed it up

Saw a trailer for a movie based on his life. The young Wilson is played by Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood), and the older Wilson is played by...John Cusack???

The flick is called Love and Mercy.

Its quality stuff. A few days ago, this album was #1 at Amazon for both Pop and Rock categories. Now at #7 Rock, #13 Pop.

I'd love to hear a "best of" Brian Wilson solo stuff re-done like they did with Smile. There are some nuggets amid the rubble.

i've listened to a few tracks from the smile sessions and it's very bittersweet...but better than wilson's "smile" released in 2004 because he just sounded weird...his vocals are no good anymore.

I just listened to the entire album. BW is still a genius. He's one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

It is a pretty solid album. Too bad his voice is so raggedy which will turn off non-diehards. Doesn't bother me though.

Yea, I dont care if his voice isnt what it once was. The hooks, melodies and harmonies are still as sweet and sticky as ever.

He's in his 70s. What do you expect of his singing voice? His voice is now midrange, like Carl's was. Al Jardine's presently is the best of the surviving Beach Boys. Bruce can't always hold a note and Mike's always sucked :-)

Post subject:  Re: new Brian Wilson

his voice has been trashed since 1975.

A big part of Brian's genius was that he could take a bunch of guys with very ordinary singing voices and arrange harmonies that made them all sound beautiful.

For you fans, youtube has recordings from the "Brian Fest". Lotsa people doing BWs songs. Heart, Boz Scaggs, Wilson Phillips. Worth a browse... Brian also shows up

was listening to the Beach Boys last night trying to soothe my frayed nerves. was thinking "Let Him Run Wild" really shows Brian's voice at its best.

An interesting version, made for "Imagination" solo album. I like the instrumentation more on the 2nd. It's not the same voice and we all know that...

Ah but these guys tour with him and do that kind of fidelity on-stage. I think they're playing at Ravinia this year.

The Wondermints are great. I was a fan of theirs long before they became Wilson's band in 1999.

Are you guys all on drugs? I listened on Spotify. This album blows big time!!!

It's just sound, not music. The melodies are not there. Each song worse than the next.

I don't know a whole lot about them. But the main guy, Darian, is a friend of a friend. I met him at a party once and talked to him for awhile.

Didn't Wilson live in St. Charles for several years? It seemed liked Steve Dahl and that Joe Thomas guy were trying to replace Landy.

Post subject:  Re: new Brian Wilson

I believe Landy had already been sprung. But yeah, based out of St Charles for awhile.

Somebody take care of Pasta for me :-)
