Saw LCD Soundsystem at Empty Bottle on their way to play Coachella the first time they played Coachella. They were still primarily known for their 12 inch releases that were getting play in the dance music scene. Cuz the Empty Bottle was half-empty for LCD Soundsysetm; while ADULT. could sell it out. One of the top whatever concert experiences: seeing LCD Soundsystem play Lollapalooza at sunset on a corner stage with the sun setting behind the city behind them. And then Daft Punk starting on the same side of the park main stage immediately after LCD SS finished and James Murphy pointing across the way toward Daft Punk and saying "Go. there. now." to all the messed up folks lollygagging in front of his stage, waiting for more tunes. Len and Bob from the Cubs booth were in the crowd at LCD SS @Lolla too. Underworld and 2 Many DJ's and Marco Carola and St Germain [first new album in 15 years this year, good record] and Jack U... M83 at Sunset in the desert would be a trip. Sufjan Stevens ever finish records for all 50 states http://laist.com/2016/01/04/coachella_2 ... h_guns.php |

And while I've never seen them live...they are supposed to be amazing. edit: And bitches love Tribulations. |

There are about 100,000 people who hate the LCD Soundsystem reunion and that group consists almost entirely of people who were at the goodbye show and people who lie about being at the goodbye show. That's what the backlash revolves around. The fakers and people who were there at MSG have two things in common: 1. They put enormous value on the social capital of "being there" and 2. That social capital of "being there" is totally overvalued. Now that the inevitable reunion is underway, in California too of all places, the latter has come way into focus. Nobody cares if you were at the long goodbye anymore, not that anyone really has in about 4 years. A sizeable portion of the old once-rabid LCD fanbase are now pushing strollers through Williamsburg and Logan Square. They aren't going to pack up for Coachella with the wife and kids. They won't livestream it. They are going to bitch about James Murphy at the coffee shop to the same people they used to one-up while their kid screams in the background. Now, can you guess who else has officially gotten old? James Murphy. He opened a fucking wine bar in Brooklyn. He has a kid. He's finally lost his edge, only took about 10 years after he announced it for it to happen. |
