Don't let the name fool you; these dark grey days are so good for On the Beach. Zuma, too: "Don't Cry No Tears" and "Looking for a Love" are the sound of a guy trying to cheer himself up but either not being able to or not really intending to. |

Didn't quite "get" why he merited all the adulation until a few years ago. Had to grow older to appreciate him I guess. |

Much like David Bowie, he went through the '70s releasing not only high-quality albums but lots of them. Even the weakest of the bunch, Comes a Time, isn't a bad album. It just doesn't blow you away like Rust Never Sleeps, Harvest, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, or Tonight's the Night (though I'll admit I personally do not like Tonight's the Night very much). Still gets me that Neil himself couldn't live up to his most famous lyric. |

Yeah, I'm not really into runny yolks, either. I appreciate a good firmness to my eggs. I also load them with black pepper and red pepper flakes. You have to make eggs interesting. |

I'm with ya' except for the peanut butter toast with eggs. Ill eat PB toast or eggs with plain toast but not eggs with PB toast. |

Tonight's the Night is great. I recall listening to that nonstop on a Chi-LA train trip circa 1992. Going through a snow storm in the middle of the night while up in the observation car is something I'll never forget. |

There are so many great Neil Young albums, but On the Beach is the perfect hangover Sunday morning not feeling great about life album. It is pretty much pitch perfect. |

Neil Young was always a peripheral guy from a genre and time before me. Only knew a handful of songs...I liked them, but didn't have much invested in Neil. I recall watching him on MTV's Unplugged and it absolutely blew me away. I don't pretend to know his full catalog, but there is no one I like more for that type of acoustic / folk style. Neil Young kicks ass. |

"Rockin' in the Free World" and "Harvest Moon" are good songs too but with those exceptions, the aforementioned albums are all I need. Listening to "Southern Man" as I opened this thread. If this song were like 15 minutes of jamming, I'd be fine with that. |
