Not a Rocky fan, Bov?
He's #1 on my half-black wrestler list.

. Of course he's awesome, he goes without saying.
Butch Reed was pretty good too.
Wait a minute. I can't think of any black person ever working for Verne..... No one.
Butch Reed actually wrestled in the AWA. He briefly was Jimmy Garvin's bodyguard.
Tony Atlas was mentioned in Bix's article.
Ernie Ladd and Earl Maynard were an AWA tag team in 1967. Fast forward ten years or so and Rufus R Jones was in the AWA. Sailor Art Thomas and Bobo Brazil made sporadic appearances for the AWA in Milwaukee.
During the latter portion of the AWA's run on ESPN, Derrick Dukes was in the AWA. Y'all might remember him better as the "boxer" that took a dive for Mark Gastineau.
Some good names there Jim, it's great having some of the older fans chime in. All of those guys were before my time. I'm surprised it never occurred to me the AWA was like that.
If you check out the Tony Atlas shoot, he talks about race in wrestling, discrimination, the Dick Murdoch and KKK urban legend is put to rest, you get Italian history lessons and a lot of good points about white dudes in wrestling in the early 80's, saba simba. Also a lot of stuff Vince did in the early 80's that I had never noticed. About 25 minutes of good stuff.
the part starts at just before 1:30:00

I'm picturing a 12 year old Bob Loblaw bitching out a Randy Savage Wrestling Buddy for botching his finisher. Also envisioning Bob Loblaw getting bitched at for lighting the living room table on fire for said finisher.
