I was coincidentally watching KC's Timeline 1995 with Nash this morning and now he says Big Show weighed 600 pounds when Nash dropped him on his head. Also blames HBK for the botched jacknife at Mania (which drew 300,000 compared to over 1 million for WMXX). Now the greatest worker can't bump properly? Says he doesn't care what anyone thinks but has excuses and reasons for everything. Then he calls jericho a mark? World champ, rock star, best selling author, and beloved by men, women, children, smarks, and his peers. He's just clearly insecure. Pacquiao and Mayweather may have something to say about small guys not drawing either.

nah, I very rarely check twitter, but if one of the sites is compiling other wrestler's comments I'd love to see them.

per Meltzer

--On if Shawn Michaels fits into his comments on how small guys on top killed the business, he said Shawn was 6-1 1/2 and 225 pounds in his prime. Funny, Shawn in his Hall of Fame speech said he was 5-10 and 185.

(fwiw: benoit is listed at 5'11", 220 on wiki, eddy, 5'8", 220)

--Kevin Nash was on the Busted Open show today, kissing up to the top guys in WWE, HHH, Punk and John Cena. He was asked about UFC and said MMA got hot, people spent $60 for a PPV, the main event went 1:12 and people weren't so apt to buy another PPV for $60 the next month. Yes, he really said that. He said that's where pro wrestling has a big advantage over MMA because you know you're getting 20-25 minutes in the main event and you'll get your money's worth. I agree with him pro wrestling as a sustainable business has big advantages over MMA (MMA has some over pro wrestling as well, but MMA never proven anything over the long haul while pro wrestling has survived in this country for 130 years). I think it's more in the ability to protect top stars and feature the most marketable guys on top, while MMA has limitations because the most marketable guys may not be the best fighters, or even average fighters (Kimbo Slice) and even the best fighters deteriorate usually long before their box office peak would be. But as far as short explosive main events, yeah, I remember all those Tyson fights bombing on PPV when he was in his prime. Sorry, I keep forgetting whenever Nash says something that doesn't hold up to an iota of thinking, he's just trolling for a response.

Size really doe not matter in this deal. It is all about how you can perform and make $$$. There have been big guys and smaller guys that have been able to do that. There are big guys that have been money their entire career like Hogan and Taker. And there have been big guys that could not do it like Sid and Nash. There have been smaller guys who could do it like Flair, HBK, Cena, and Punk and there have been smaller guys that could not do it like Rey and the Miz.

Now where do Eddy and Benoit fit in that discussion? They probably fit more into the last category, but that in no way means they killed the business.

I was a big Eddy/Benoit guy when I liked wrestling, but I can see where someone would have reservations about using the twentieth WrestleMania to finally coronate the darlings of the diehard fanbase. I mean, it did have to happen sooner or later, but maybe not that month? not that WrestleMania?

With the Benoit match, they also made the mistake of quite obviously hedging by slotting him into a Michaels/HHH match, which would've been a fine enough main event on its own had Benoit not been scripted into the main event by winning the Royal Rumble. Maybe they should've had enough confidence in him to just have him against HHH, which surely would've been a five-star match and a memorable finish. Three-way matches are always kind of clunky, and the main event of the #1 show should just be one-on-one. (That four-way match at WM2000 was really clunky, with the added wrinkle of having the heel champion defend the title, which never happened. I loved it, being an incorrigible HHH fanboy at the time.)

The match is even weirder now that Benoit has been NCAA-ianly retconned from history, so that the match really was just Michaels against HHH, which neither happened to win.

They didn't believe Benoit could carry a Wrestlemania main event. That could be true. The fans were clamoring for it, so they put HHH and Michaels around him to sell the show. If you think about it, the office, and the fans won. After that, he murdered his family, and nobody won.

I don't think Benoit vs. Triple H would've garnered the buys they were looking for. If they'd gone with that match, you probably would've seen Goldberg/Brock pushed to the last match on the show. Thank God that didn't happen because Goldberg/Brock is easily a top 3 worst Mania match of all time.

What purpose does it serve tho?

Nash has no role right now and he heels it up on 2 dead guys?

Just seems dumb to me regardless of motivation.

I agree it's dumb but he's just attention-whoring. He's "Beardowning" the wrestling community, that's why I paid it no mind.

Yeah I guess he is. I never cared for Nash as a wrestler, but always thought he was somewhat intelligent. Guess I was wrong.

Exactly. Internet crowds are going to buy WM regardless. Tell the non-captured crowd you're doing HHH v Benoit. Meh. Put Shawn in there, along with Benoit winning the Rumble. Nice. You keep everyone strong, sell WM, and put the belt on Benoit.

Nash did this to stay relevant. That's it. It was a thirty second comment during a very long interview. But I guarantee after saying it, he had a huge grin on his face. It's the same grin some people get here when they receive five responses during Internet debate Tuesday.

Benoit, Guerrero, Mysterio, Punk, etc. aren't going to make mainstream news when they win a title. But Eli Cottonwood won't either. Austin wasn't a monster. Hogan was special. Andre was an attraction. You can't say Mysterio winning a title was stupid, simply because he won't make USA Today. The wrestling business won't always have that guy. The carnival needs that decent Hispanic dwarf until the the next 6'9" bearded woman comes around. If you're watching the Olympics, I think Vince could find the next bearded Chinese female dwarf. Which is why it will go on forever.

Nash is a liar. Sure he knew the reaction he would get but you bet your ass he believes that. He was a lazy worker and careless with his opponents, especially when delivering the jacknife powerbomb. The guy is a tool of the highest order and his own biggest mark.

I agree with the lazy part but he didn't have a track record of injuring guys. Paul Wight was the only guy he injured with the jacknife. To Nash's credit, he had successfully powerbombed Wight about a year earlier, but by the time the botched jacknife happened, Wight was probably 100 lbs heavier. Nash was likely high or drunk too. Either way, he had no business trying that move on a guy that big.

Yup. This has been Nash's M.O. for years. He's a shit stirrer. He throws out a dickish comment, and sits back and laughs at all the trolls who bite. He's been throwing out that pornstar with a 3 inch dick analogy/vanilla midgets shit for 15 years. He doesn't even believe half of what he says. He does it to keep his name out there, and for shits and giggles. He gets his load on, and starts tweeting "controversial" shit. Or he sits down and works an interviewer for 45 minutes. I never take him seriously.

Some people think grown men shouldn't play videogames, IMU.

I think those people are wrong, of course. But everybody has their thing...

In 1995, maybe.

I'm not sure that opinion is held by anyone but a few people these days.

I see the point you are trying to make...but counter it with the point that most video games now are actually made for and marketed as 'M' for 17+ adults, while wrestling seems to be catered towards a more...pubescent demographic.

You're preaching to the choir. There are still a ton of people who think children should be the only ones who play videogames and watch cartoons. Doesn't make them right or wrong.

Just because they don't think the games are geared towards an older crowd doesn't mean they are correct, it just means the the games aren't geared toward them...
