I'm reporting this is a worked shoot to swerve the marks of the Internet Wrestling Community by breaking kayfabe to swerve the Impact Zone in a work or a storyline from 1998 where there as a work with the boys which ended up in another swerve because Mark Henry gave birth to Sean Waltman. I'd be wary of this story.

Sources: Reports of changes in TNA structure incorrect; Lagana at PPV, Russo not

Feb 12, 2012 - 4:09:59 PM

By Wade Keller, PWTorch editor

According to a top level source in TNA, reports of Dave Lagana replacing Vince Russo as Head of Creative are incorrect.

Nick Paglino of WrestleZone.com has reported this afternoon that Vince Russo has been replaced in TNA with Dave Lagana in the creative structure. The story did not detail how Bruce Prichard, who was recently given the title of Head of Creative, fit into the new structure.

We are currently attempting to clarify what regarding the original report is incorrect, but our source who would know says the story as reported is not true.

We can report from another source that Dave Lagana is in Orlando for tonight's PPV, but Vince Russo is not. That may have led to speculation that Russo was replaced by Lagana.

Its official. Done deal per Meltzer. Happened days ago and is breaking now. Will know for sure by 5:00.

I really figured if it hadn't happened by now, it was never going to happen.

Keller won't be happy.

Hopefully Bischoff and Hogan are next.

^ they're not discussing it.

----------

To follow up on our earlier story which broke the news that Vince Russo is no longer on the TNA creative team, WZ can now confirm that Bruce Prichard is retaining his title as Senior Vice President of Programming and Talent Relations, and that Dave Lagana has replaced Russo as Impact's lead writer.

We have been told that Russo is not backstage at Against All Odds tonight.

A good way to know if this is true or not is if there are fireworks going off over Castle Cornette

By Wade Keller, PWTorch editor

-The latest information is that Eric Bischoff would have been part of the decision to shift Vince Russo out of a position of power within the TNA Creative Structure. Our sources are guessing he's out, but details are being worked out. Nothing is confirmed, but the latest feeling is that he won't be retained in any capacity with TNA and details are being worked out.

-A Russo exit would mean more power and influence from Eric Bischoff, who has had an up and down relationship with Russo over the years, but consistently disagreed with him philosophically on how to approach booking and storytelling.

-Bruce Prichard remains the head of creative, with an official title as Senior V.P. of Programming and Talent Relations. Whereever Dave Lagana lands within the structure, he'd be working under Prichard and answering to Prichard and Bischoff.

-As of now, Lagana's role doesn't appear to be taking over the scope of duties that Russo had, and he is at this point only doing pre-tapes. He may end up helping write the actual Impact scripts, but creative direction would still be decided by Bischoff and Prichard.

-Nothing official is being said regarding Russo. If Russo were in good standing, by now someone in the know would have stepped up to quell rumors.

-Dave Lagana is downplaying his role, indicating he has not been promoted to Russo's old position. Another source says firmly that Lagana is helping with pre-tapes and may be in line for promotions, but along with Matt Conway, he is simply part of the creative structure and not in a position of power like Russo had (although diminished lately compared to recent years).

I'm kind of torn with this news. It feels so anti-climatic. The lack of response in this thread makes me think I'm not the only one. I've watched one complete Impact in the last two months, and watched portions of others. Honestly, the product has improved greatly. If I was throwing a fin down, I think Russo has been marginalized since Brother Love took over. We may find out he left on his own. The shows have been making sense, and there seems to be a direction.

Thanks to The Great BL, I've watched multiple shoots over the last week. Some of these guys, Russo included, have proven a long standing belief of mine. You can be not particularly good at your job, but want to get better. When you don't understand why everyone thinks you suck, and feel it's their fault, you're probably an assbag. This is that sketchy line where you start referring to people as "haters."

I want this company to succeed so bad. Hopefully this is a move in the right direction. Apparently Dixie had a change of heart from her Russo slurping shoot a few years ago.

It feels VERY anti-climactic so far. I don't think its hit me yet due to shock. Still a surreal situation at this point.

My main worry is its too little too late. There's already been so much damage done, I'm not sure they'll ever get over that 1.1. Even after that great London show, the next week ratings went way down after that great show even though it was filmed at the same place. That's got to be terrible news. They followed their best show in months with lower than usual ratings.

per Dave M a few hours ago

Quote:
Bryan's not in town. As soon as he gets home we'll do an update.

I believe Lagana is writing the TV tomorrow. Hard to get a lot this close to the PPV, but this has been inevitable from the day Lagana left ROH. Just a question as to when Russo would quit. The found the guy who can actually script a show but Dixie would never fire Russo.

Quote:
This is not a change in creative direction. Eric & Prichard are in charge. Russo's power lessened when Prichard was put in charge. You can tell by less nonsense on TV and less stuff crammed into the show.

Nothing in recent weeks led to the change. It was happening for months.
