Cruz vs Faber is off and now Faber more likely than not will have an interim fight for the belt, maybe vs Michael McDonald(heard that on the radio xm208)

Bisping vs Boetsch has been moved to 149 which is Aldo vs Koch(no fucking chance I would order that).

Bones Jones vs Hendo will probably be pushed back now to 150 in August as Frankie Edgar won't be ready in time as he is still recovering from his fight in February. They need to just have have Edgar sit out and have the fight with Benson Henderson vs Nate Diaz. I hate when titles are held up forever. If the champ is healthy he needs to defend it once every 3-4 months. 5 months tops.

Silva went in pretty hard on Sonnen today. Said he was going to break every bone in his body and his teeth. Said Sonnen wouldn't be able to leave the cage on his own, and this fight would change the image of the sport.

I can't. Silva very well may win the fight, but I do not see him obliterating him.

Post subject:  Re: UFC 148

I can see myself ordering this fight and being bored to death until the main event. They killed this card with taking so many fights off this card. You can't run 2 shows a month, let alone 3. June has had 3 FX cards and a PPV. That's just fucking stupid. If you do 2 you might be able to get away with a few injuries and still put on a good show. UFC 147 was garbage and 149 will be as well. They ran 4 cards in June and they are running another 3 in July. No wonder why people stream their cards. Don't tell me Dana White actually believed Rich Franklin vs Wanderli Silva 2 would draw numbers, regardless of "how fucking jacked the fans are bro".

OK rant over, I'm super pumped for Silva vs Sonnen 2 and I really hope Sonnen retires Silva. How this guy is in the top 5 pound for pound fighters is a joke. He was the champ in the shittiest division for all that time. Damien Maia,Patrick Cote,Thales Letites? War Chael P Sonnen.

Couldn't disagree more on the Anderson Silva hate. He has absolutely EMBARRASSED his opponents. I don't get how some of these MMA fans don't like/respect him. The guy is a freak - just an amazing athlete. I find it even more funny that these idiots that hate Silva are the same people that worship Forrest Griffin - who got so embarrassed that he literally ran out of the octagon and out of the arena as fast as he could after his quick schooling. Sonnen was the one guy to really give him a hell of a fight. And Silva showed us that night a new way he could win. I don't get it. I was here in the quad cities for the Sonnen-Silva fight and 98% of the place was rooting for Sonnen. I can tell you for a fact though that I was surrounded by quite a few of rednecked racists just rooting for the white guy. I realize that's not the case overall. I know that the LeBron James, ARod's, Tom Brady's of the world get a ton of hate. I just don't get how you could not respect greatness. If you don't respect Silva, then how could you respect any of his opponents any more than him?

After seeing what Silva did to Okami and knowing that Sonnen is a good fighter but nowhere near the top tier i wouldnt be one bit surprised if Silva thrashes Chael.

Youre nuts if you dont think Silva is in the top 3 lb4lb. Hes wrecked his div so bad that it looks like all he fights are cans

Jones, GSP, Jose Aldo are ahead of Silva

Silva looked good vs Okami in Brazil and he KO'd Vitor Belfort who didn't deserve to be in the ring with Silva. The MW division during the time of Silvas reign was the weakest division in the UFC. Silva did fight cans.

I used to be a fan of Silva's but after paying to watch him fight Cote, Leites, and Maia and have Silva just do next to nothing to finish fighters that he should be levels above left a bad taste in my mouth. I would say the same thing would apply to GSP but the guys he is fighting and has fought are top level Welterweights.

Just watched the Silva/Sonnen presser, highly entertaining. Both fighters really selling this fight. Sonnen being the usual clown, with some of the shit he was saying. Silva was really fired up, especially when they went to do the photo op at the end. White had to get in between them a few times. The weigh in should be entertaining Friday night. I really wish they had a worthy co-main event for this card. I would be more excepting of the Ortiz fight, if it was the 3rd or 4th best fight on the card. Griffin better retire as well, if he loses.

Honestly I kind of look at it this was to the whole card now: No other fight matters or could matter on this card. Faber vs Cruz would have been nice on this card but Cruz got hurt. Would anyone really care about that fight at all since Silva/Sonnen is such a huge fight. The other fights on this card are just really filler until about 10:30 that night when the main event should get rolling. I'm very very jacked up for this fight. I just hope the weather breaks on Saturday as I would like to watch this in the garage with a nice cigar and a few friends.

I really hope this fight lives up to everything going into the fight.

The weigh in could be intresting too.

I did like the end of the Primetime Special with the song they played at the end.

With Chael's line, Best Anderson/Bad Anderson, can't stop somebody throwing you down to the mat and throwing punches to the face.

I will ask this, Chael said he's rescinded his line that he said after UFC 136 that if he lost, he would leave the UFC, but if Chael loses, is this his last fight? lost to Silva twice, probably not another title shot.

The Legendary Silva v. Sonnen, part 2

It is easy to become numb to the greatness that is Anderson Silva. "He's the best ever" "No one can beat him" yada yada. Cliches spouted by half-informed sports writers (and by some very informed sports writers) get drummed into our heads so often that we take for granted how legendary has been Silva's run. And that greatness makes Chael Sonnen's approach to Saturday's fight truly legendary in its own right.

We all hear about how many wins in a row Silva has had: fourteen - which is five more than the second man on the list, Georges St. Pierre, who checks in with nine. But consider that Silva also holds the record for consecutive title defenses at nine. Anderson Silva has had as many consecutive title defenses as St. Pierre has had consecutive wins.

Our memories tend to blend together into one timeless mess, so it's sometimes difficult to appreciate how long Silva has held the belt. It's been a long, long time. By MMA standards, almost impossibly long.

Since Silva won the title:

children born that day are now in first grade;

there have been four lightweight, four welterweight, seven light heavyweight (!), and eight heavyweight champions (!!);

there have been more Presidents of the United States than there have been middleweight champions;

the iPad was invented - scratch that, the iPhone was invented;

more actors have played Spider-Man than fighters have worn the middleweight belt;

heck, Jon Jones has more drinking and driving related arrests than there have been middleweight champions.

For many UFC fans, Silva is the only middleweight champion they have ever known. If Silva is great, then every other fighter is merely good.

And Chael Sonnen has poked his finger in this man's chest over and over again and demanded a rematch. Is he insane? No doubt, of the 13 men who have fought Silva, Sonnen, far and away, did the best anyone has done against the Brazilian. For 23 minutes, he took Silva down at will, punched the champ more than 300 times, dropped him twice with punches in the first and fifth rounds respectively - and Silva still won, by triangle choke. As if his legacy was not grand enough, Silva also holds the record for the latest finish in a fight in UFC history. Never in the near eighteen years of the company, over the thousands of fights that have taken place, has a man lost 23 straight minutes of a fight and still won.

Sonnen's response since the August 2010 loss, in addition to defeating legitimate contenders Brian Stann and Michael Bisping, has been to literally insult Silva whenever opportunity has presented itself: to insult Silva's country, his wife, his legacy, his family, his friends - anyone and everything that Silva holds dear or could even think of holding dear.

Sonnen's approach comes across as slightly ... nuts. It's one thing to accept a fight with the champion; to tell yourself you want to test yourself against the best in the world. It's understandable to try and trash talk a bit, to hype a fight, build interest as it were. But to go out of your way to truly anger the man? Sonnen has given a man who is legally encouraged to hurt people an incentive to go out of his way to injure. Is Sonnen crazy?

Like a fox, maybe.

Sonnen just might know what he's doing. After all, until he lost, Sonnen wasn't just beating Silva, he was winning in such a decisive manner that it seemed to call into question all of Silva's previous successes. It wasn't just that Silva was losing, it's that he looked vulnerable to the point where he seemed incapable. And as Sonnen heads into the cage on Saturday, he knows that all he has to do is make a minor adjustment (don't get tapped for another two minutes), while Silva needs to make major overhauls (don't get taken down like you're pulling guard for 23 minutes). If any man could ever have a mental edge over the greatest fighter who has ever lived, this would be that situation.

Poking the bull isn't always wisest, but when you're fighting a man who's success has always been based upon brilliant precision, maybe making him see red is a good thing. Maybe it's the only chance. Because over all these years nothing else has worked.

And to look Silva in the eye, tell him exactly what you're going to do, to go out there and do it, to slap him the face while you take his belt? To beat Anderson Silva? There is only one word the world would use to describe that.

Legendary.

If my math is right were about 57 hours untill this fight. Thinking it will be about 1 am Eastern/ midnight Central.

The more stuff I watch on these 2, like I put before I hope the fight lives up to all of this.

I doubt it will be that late. They had the same issue with Jones and Evans. The main fight card had 6 fights on the card and I believe Jones vs Evans went on around 11pm or pretty close to it. With 6 fights they will be on top of things and have the undercard fighters(i.e. not Tito or Forrest) moving in and out quicker than they normally do.

There has probably been 2 fights that I have been this hyped up for and both lived up to the hype.

Silva/Sonnen 1
Mir/Lesnar 2

Sonnen was on ESPN today and said that he has about 20lbs to lose before the weigh in Friday. Hopefully this doesn't affect him too much with cardio issues.

Holmes just had some chick on from Yahoo previewing the fight. Lol, first he thought the fight was in Brazil, showing how much he has been following it. Then his guest kept saying Silva's last fight was against Belfort. I like the MMA talk, but at least have someone on who knows what's going on.

Major happenings at the weigh ins today. 10k people showed up just to see guys weigh in and it just helped add to the fight for tomorrow. Silva pulled a total dick move cheap shot by throwing his shoulder into Sonnens jaw as well. I really really hope that Sonnen puts Silva on his back and just beats the shit out of him like he did in the first fight. This time I hope he picks up the win.

Like they never do that in boxing either. :roll:

They are selling the fight - more fighters need to do this. Its hard to have such polarizing fighters when they dont' really get alot of promo time to make you care one way or the other about them. Sonnen is putting on a clinic on being a heel and getting people to pay to see him possibly get his ass kicked. Textbook.

Really hope Sonnen stands and bangs with Silva. He dominated on the ground the last fight, but he didn't even have Silva cut. I really think Silva will do a better job of stopping the takedown. I wouldn't be surprised if he catches Sonnen with a knee. I wouldn't be surprised if Silva retires win or lose tomorrow. I would like to see him give up the title, and move to 205 for a few fights. Then they could have a mini tournament for the 185 belt.

CIJ you really think that was a dick move by Silva bumping Chael? All i can say is that Sonnen deserved worse for talkin about Silvas wife

If Chael decides to band with Silva he would get absolutely annihilated! That 1st fight was just freakin wierd. Wont happen again. Chael has to pressure Silva and take him down and grind out a win. I dont think Sonnen has anything to finish him with. I just hope its a good fight
