Feel free to throw stones at me if this is already posted somewhere, but these Virgil bags on Deadspin are a riot. I've caught up on all of them now and some are just priceless. Of course, all the Virgil stories are great and just add credibility to Iron Sheik ripping on him.

Eh, I still laugh every time I read about how pathetic Virgil is. It doesn't get old to me. The expansion of all wrestler stories has made this a must read every two weeks though.

I read those stories and thought they were hilarious. I don't have any wrestler run-in stories. Back in my journalism days. I interviewed the Living Legend Larry Zbyszko and Gregg "The Hammer" Valentine. I know You're Happy for Me.

That actually sounds pretty cool, Kiss. Is there anything noteable you remember from that? Any stories?

It doesn't surprise me that they had to apply for other jobs on the side.

I curse Deadspin for these stories. I'll be in the middle of doing something, and my Twitter machine tells me I have a new round. Can't help myself.

I used to work at a small town weekly newspaper in Amboy, Illinois around 1999-2000. I found out that the Police Chief of Amboy was a man by the name of Paul Smith. He was about 6-7 and weighed about 350 to 400 pounds. He wrestled in local indy shows under the name "Hurricane" Paul Smith.

I interviewed Chief Smith for a feature story and found out that he was wrestling Valentine at a county fair (I wanna say Whitside County). I called the promoter and arranged to cover the match and take some pictures. I was able to get right at ringside to take some pictures that I used for the story. Interviewed Valentine afterwards and don't remember anything memorable.

I also found out that every year Chief Smith hosted a golf outing in Amboy that raises money to give two students from Amboy HS and two from Dixon HS college scholarships.

Chief Smith usually had a former NFL player and a former pro wrestler appear at the golf outing. The wrestler wax Zbyszko and the former NFL player was Calvin Thomas from the '85 Bears. Thomas actually was in my group at the golf outing and was a pretty cool guy to talk to.

Got a chance to talk to Zbyzko (who I believe was doing commentary for WCW Monday Nitro) at the time. The one question I do remember asking him had to do with WCW using the character The Demon from KISS. I don't remember his exact answer, but it was something along the lines of it being the stupidest gimmick WCW had ever done. History proves he was right on that one.

The one thing I remember about Chief Smith was how big he was. I have only felt small standing next to one other person and that wax John Tait of the Bears at Bourbonnais.
