Two huge boxing cards on Saturday featuring the two most popular young Mexicans in the sport. I'll be ordering the Chavez-Martinez PPV, but since in typical self-destructive boxing fashion the two shows are on at the same time, the optimal strategy for casual fans is probably to watch the Canelo undercard which looks really good and then switch to a stream of Chavez-Martinez, which is a far more significant fight than Alvarez taking on a guy making his debut at 154 after a single fight at 147. Both main events should be entertaining at the very least.

None of the four guys actually has a hyphenated name. I guess I need to work on making my thread titles clearer  :(

I knew what you meant, Zeph. Just trying to give the thread some heat.

I wonder if Chavez knows what's coming his way. Though I suppose all the PEDs in the world might even things out for him.

I appreciated Roy mentioning HBO's direct role in Martinez getting stripped. It doesn't quite make up for his commentary during the actual Chavez-Zbik fight though where he slobbered all over Chavez Jr as a real world champion.

I still don't think Maidana belongs at welter but he nevertheless remains a badass.

   @ round 12. Martinez almost too proud to get the easy decision win.

That conclusion probably makes Martinez's handler happier at least. Better to fight Chavez Jr in a rematch than have to get in the ring with an animal like Golovkin for at best his pre-PPV purse. Even Geale, who would be an easier fight, still has no name value in the States.

Absent that absent-minded 12th round, I would have thought Sergio would be in line to face Andre Ward, Froch, or come down a bit for Canelo, Cotto, Floyd, etc.

I don't think he bothers with the super middles, especially not Ward. He can get paid just as much staying in his division and not having to give up as much size. The 12th might help him insofar as it could make the guys at 154 a bit more inclined to fight him than what transpired over the first 11 rounds. Two of Cotto, Canelo, and Floyd will probably fight within the next 9 months, so maybe he can get the one left out.
